XR7-G Front Valance

I found a front valance for an XR7-G. I haven’t bought it, but I was wondering what it is worth. What do you guys think?

I answered my own question. WCCC has one for sale.

Thanks anyway.

Don has had that one for a long time. Most people buy the reproduction buckets and put then in a regular valance panel. The real price is probably around $500. You can buy really nice parts for about $350 if you want to make one.

OK, thanks.

Actually the one pictured was 2 valances ago… We do not retake pics of used parts unless there is a significant change. The one we have currently came from a GTE that someone had put on years ago.

The buckets have been out of stock for about 4 years.

There actually was an original G front valence for sale at Carlisle this weekend.

It was Black Cherry and had some dents but very usable.

Of course I can’t remember how much they were asking. Maybe someone else who saw it will chime in.

That is the one I saw, but it had already been bought. The guy that bought it was asking $1000.

By the way, Phillip. I probably walked past you and didn’t know who you were… Are you going to Dearborn?

LOL! You were at Carlisle Matt!!??

Yeah, we probably stood next to each other a dozen times and didn’t know it.

I was at the tent, selling shirts and posters most of the time.

Darn, I would have liked to say hello.

No, sad to say I just can’t make Dearborn. Been working so much on all the 50th stuff for the CCOA and Carlisle that I’ve neglected my own business a tiny bit.

Got some catching up to do.

I got there Thursday and my only chance to do some vendors was then, so that is when I saw the valence.

I didn’t want to speculate on the price (lots going on in my head) but I think it was in the $500 to $600 range so I guess someone bought it and was flipping it for 1K?

The same guy had a set of G 390 valve covers and as I started to reach for them he said “those are original”. Shelby American was missing on the inside so pretty sure those were re-pops.

I saw a picture of the recent reproduction G valve covers and the bayonet style twist in breather detail was missing. It looks like there may be at least two versions of the reproductions, one with that feature and one without.

The last G valance I saw on eBay was a no sale at $750. It had a few dents but overall it was in good condition. I missed the auction end and reached out to the seller through eBay but I never heard back. As Bill stated you can make a G valance if you have the buckets. Don didn’t have the repro buckets so I fabricated my own buckets for my G style valance for my 68 convertible conversion.

Matt I made templates for the buckets if you need them.

Holy crap, that valance looks amazing!

I have one, but it is probably borderline for re-use. I will try to straighten mine before replacing it.

Thanks for the compliment Matt. I would agree, if you can straighten yours go that route. The XR7G is a rare car and they deserve original parts. Our Lime Frost XR7G has a bent valance. It can be straightened but we are keeping it as a survivor for the foreseeable future.

I had a NOS valance I acquired with my G. Zip Hughes thought $200 was too steep in 1985. I swapped it to John in Holland. Zip called back a month later! This valance was so nice, John told me he might use it to pattern a repro. Don’t have a clue if this fine example had any roll in the fiberglass ones available now, but l’d bet someone in this forum does!
