xr7-g styled steel wheels

I found a commercial for the 68 xr7-g on youtube, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWualLA3b44 , ,that indicates that the car came with its own styled steel wheels. These are spoked, and not the standard SSW’s that you see on most 67’s and 68’s.

were these recalled? and if so, did any of them survive to today? Anyone out here seen them or have them?

Cheers

They were in fact recalled, here is the skinny.

Thanks for the link and the quick follow-up, Don. Interesting story. Even more interesting is that wccc links to the same commercial I found. I really came to this in a roundabout way, didn’t I?

Anyway, I can tell that by the cost of the one wheel on wccc that originals are pretty damn expensive (and rare). Does anyone make an aftermarket?

By the way, just curious, but how did you set the price at $644.85? That seems so random… why not just make them $650 a pop?

A few Gs managed to retain their Raders.

Those are sweet.

Do you know if these are made aftermarket? I would think they’d be sought after by cougar owners looking for something different than the standard steel wheel pattern. Magnum 500’s and cragars are used often, I imagine these would get some interest.

by the way, nice avatar. You have a source for that?

Thanks, I like your avatar to!

I drew mine. I created it as a vector art in Illustrator and then took it into Photoshop and added some color.

No XR7-G style Raders on the market now that I know of. There are some similar aftermarket wheels available - they are referred to as “mesh” style I believe.

By no means an exact match tho.

BTW, the Raders were offered for sale “back-in-the-day” just like any other aftermarket wheel. In various sizes and bolt patterns. Famed Kustom car builder George Barris liked the Raders and put them on several of his cars.

I think Bill (XR7g428) and some others were talking here a while back about getting some of the Rader style wheels made. Do a forum search on the topic and you might find it. The G owners that were discussing it please stand up.
