Brian, I already buffed it and while both shades became much shinier, the color match was no better. Had they blended the paint onto the doors when they did the repaint, it would have looked much better. I didn’t wet sand the paint but I don’t think there is anything that can be done short of blending to lessen the difference between the colors.
The original paint is much better quality than the repaint. It looked worse than the newer stuff until after I buffed it and now the original looks better than the repaint. Whoever buys it can continue buffing it and I’m sure it will look even better. We just made a decision to give it a nice buff without spending seven days on it but if it was mine, I would continue going over it a couple more times to see what happens.
BTW, Brian, if you’re interested in the car, I think you should make a run up here and look it over for yourself. Scott will be here later today for the weekend so it would be a good time to talk to him about it as well.
Thanks Jeff…I should have worded that a little better, as you had obviously worked it over some already…but I appreciate your thoughts. I’m not sure what to think here, as on one hand the story and rarity of this car (especially with those wheels!) is great but it is also a low optioned G with a couple issues like the paint match. I actually like the idea of a small block G and would love to drive the crap out of one! but the originality is kind of scewered, to me, because of that matching problem. I’m just weird that way. My GT has the issue on one door and it drives me nuts, as does my standard white car. There are painters who are good with this stuff, however
I have enough confidence in you guys and your assesment of the car to make the decision long-distance. I just have to wrangle this in my mind a bit more, probably like a lot of folks! This is a cool car with an interesting story, that’s for sure!
