Nice pass. How fast was the bike?

Bike went 9.26 @139.22

Calm wheel man goes mid 10’s behind XR-7 dash.

That’s a lot of performance from a 53 year old unit body car! Amazing.

Oh man…that math hurts my head…lol. The car goes very straight all things considered…and she is not very elaborate when it comes to chassis mods…6 point roll bar…home made sub frame connectors…its a 67 so there is angle iron triangulated from the rear of the RH front frame rail to the rocker. But she does not twist at the hit

Here is a good pic from the track photographer…they may not be very high …but it hangs the hoops !

I’d like to know more about your setup. Power, Tire size, Car weight, Gearing etc… If it’s posted somewhere just let me know. Otherwise list away. Thank you.

Nice! Any hacking to get those 29.5" tall ties to fit? It’s up on two wheels in both pics so can’t tell if the rear end is lifted a bunch.

Yes Please!

The rear is an early 9 in big tube housing. There are 1 inch aluminum pillow blocks on the spring pads. The inner wheel well lips are rolled flat. The rear shocks are summit single adjustables set on medium. I needed 1/4 spacers between the wheels and the drums. The 10 53 pass was leaving off the footbrake at 2500. I have the car setup with a 2 step and a transbrake. Best 60 ft. was this last pass 1.45. I need to work on the launch …two years ago I was trting the " button" and it made no difference in my 60ft. Launching at 3500 off the brake or footbraking it my 60 ft was 1.54. Sooo now I realize that was due to spinning the slicks. Lower launch RPM. LOWERED the 60ft. Here is a pic I took of the car static last weekend and a cropped pic of the lo buck 70’s vintage “SLAPPER BARS” at work. They might be cheesey…lol They are Mustang bars with an extension welded to em and I tell you they really worked ! I have since replaced them with Slide -A- Links that a fellow Cougar guy gifted to me. If anyone here wants the slapper bars…just pay shipping I will pay it forward. They aint pretty but they do work

Thanks for the details. It’s helpful. This winter I am considering going Cal Tracs with a mono leaf spring and a single adjustable rear shock. I have a factory 9" and will be going with new axles, Detroit locker (or similar) and maybe 3.55 ratio. Looking into 28" tall tire. Perhaps a 275/50 17" MH drag radial. Rims would have 4.25" backspace. I am hoping that someone comes out with a set of composite leaf springs but so far I have not found anything that will fit the Cougar. They don’t make a traditional trans brake for the 6R80 but there’s some work around. Motor upgrade is a couple years out so just working on getting the chassis ready.

Flex Form makes composite rear leaf springs for Cougars. I have them on my 1969. Love the way they ride and they were much much lighter than the stock steel springs.

When did you buy your springs? I have reached out to them but didn’t get any reply. Do you mind if I ask what they cost you? Thx.

  1. Response was pretty slow from what I recall. They were about $400 I think. I’ll have to check.

$425 plus shipping in April 2017. I do recall I had better luck calling them than reaching them via email.

IIRC something like 25 pounds PER spring lighter as well! That’s a huge reduction.
