Your fuel light that you are talking about is a low fuel light and many have stopped working long ago. There is a fix for this and maybe someone will post the link for that, you can do a search for it yourself as well. It bypasses the old one and works off of the gauge in the dash. That said, you may have a bulb burnt out as well in the upper console.
As for the lights, if you can hear the motor of the blinkers in the trunk working there could be dirty connections, or a bad ground. Saying this, remember that your bulbs for the lights have two filaments. Check each bulb to make sure both filaments are good. you can do this with an Ohm meter and check the continuity from the casing of the bulb and each electrode on the bottom of the bulb.
What type of bulb should be in the Lights and where do I check
The Blinkers work left and right but no turn signals
No Emergency ones either
Can it possibly be under the Dash like stuck ?
Can someone post photos of where to check
Like what has already been said, you should get yourself a shop manual to help you know and understand what your car needs and how it works.
For the type of bulb needed, pull one of yours out and check the numbers. It may be something like 1157, That could be wrong. you will see this on the base of the bulb. You can get these at any automotive store.
What do you mean, the blinkers work but no turn signals? Blinkers are turn signals.
With the emergency flashers not working you could be looking at a blinker relay. It is a small plastic or steel canister just about an 1 1/4 inches in diameter under the dash on the driver side.
Alright I got it running
I would of figured it had Power Steering but it doesn’t…sheesh so hard to steer !!!
Plus it spits out White smoke out the hinges. I poured seafoam in the fuel tank
It still sputs it out though
You should post a picture of the engine compartment so we can see if you have a power steering pump or not. You may just have a belt off.
You have white smoke coming out the hinges? Maybe the seafoam is the reason for the white smoke. That is one of the things it does when being used.
Ok, I just saw a picture of your engine compartment and ya, no power steering, at least no pump.
Well its been White smoke for awhile now…Brake lights have to be fixed and the Turn Signals…I wish it had power steering…hurts my hands
It is constant white smoke all the time or just when you first start the car and when revved up? It could be just dried out valve seals.
With standard steering, just remember it’s best to have the car moving at least a little when turning the steering wheel. It’s always going to be hard to turn the steering wheel when sitting still. There is a remedy, you could buy a Borgeson power steering kit that eliminates a lot of the problem parts. Here is a link to the part and also a video link as well on how to install the kit.
One other thing, did you check the firing order on your motor, to determine what motor you have? It will be stamped on the intake manifold if it is the original manifold. Those numbers were posted earlier for you.
Alright well I drove it and when I stop it cuts off, Puffs white smoke every where
started heating up slowly, and smoke came from the bottom sides of the motor, and on the left side I smelt oil
Damnit I hope it isn’t a blown head gasket or cracked Block…I have a feeling I need to sell this dreadful Cougar
I’m thinking a rusted core (freeze) plug or two.
I hope so John, it came from a plug…God I hope its nothing Major…
How do I know if I got a Crack in the Block…I dont think it cracked
The Radiator is the Stock Radiator from the Fomoc Factory, and 45 years later I think it may need a new one possibly ?
Find a cooling system PRESSURE TESTER. Pressurize the cooling system, crawl underneath the front end of the car with a flashlight and find the leak(s).
You could have just popped a bottom rad hose as well.
Turned out I didn’t have my Thermostat installed so I think that is why DUH
But it cuts off when I stop, possibly low on gas ?
When I hit the Turn signal switch I hear the little motor run, but no lights, possibly grounded wire
As Dennis stated in post #81. Check for dirty connections in the sequencer and also the ground. Did you check the bulbs? It’s kind of hard keeping track of what you checked. So moving forward it would help you if you can go step by step of what you’ve done and how you checked each item. Going from engine cooling issues to turn signals is a pretty big jump. Cooling issues would be my first priority so the engine will survive after you figure out the issue of the engine not staying running.
Just a thought to help. Why not make a list of which items/problems are most important to you from first to least. Then we might be able to help you figure a fix for that said issue.
Hope that helps.
Steven
I know I believe it was bc the Thermostat wasn’t even installed
I don’t know where to check though without a photo
An engine bursting into steam or just quitting is not something a T-stat (lack of) will do. How is it that you think the T-stat is missing and why do you think, its the problem?
Because I have the old T-Stat and the New one right here from the previous owner.I think its a Hose, and I dont really know I was just told that
Im just going to fix the top with Primer and put a top on it
That would be the easiest solution. May consider filling the holes/damage with a chopped fiberglass product like USC Duraglas, then skim coat with an Evercoat glaze product. Instead of spraying a rattle can type primer, would be better off using up old cans of enamel spray paint that may be laying around. Most primers have no water proofing properties,…enamel, much better at sealing the rust. Could go all out and coat the entire roof with POR after some minor repairs. That should last you a good long time.
