The turn signal relays mount just underneath the trunk mat where it sits in your pic. Also the hood scope on your car looks to be a reproduction as origional parts didnt have reinforcing ribs molded into them as the one pictured has.
I spent many weekends at ‘42’ in the 70s racing a 67 stang coupe. Many Cougars and Fords there at that time, Fast Eddies hangout. I would take my 68.5 R to Thompson dragway because it was a GM haven and it was so much fun to beat them. You should get a Marti report and see what dealer it came from. Wyatt Lincoln-Mercury in Cleveland was one of the top Cougar sellers across northern Ohio.
Thanks for sharing, very interesting! Keep in mind as you switch out parts for more correct parts we will give you in store credit for the take off parts. Does the car have wrap around shock tower reinforcement plates?
WOW!!! Amazing!! Thank you soooo much for taking the time to show us where that wiring goes!!! You guys are THE BEST!!!
We just went out to look and, by God it does have the wrap around shock tower reinforcement plates!! That blows my mind!
You’d expect to see those on your car, as well as every '69-'70.
We are learning a lot!!!
Post the Marti Report when you can. Those plates are a mark of authenticity on your car. Only the late built big blocks got them and they are different looking than 69-70 plates.
Will do! We plan on documenting everything we do or, have done to the car. Also, we will be keeping ALL the original parts we replace. We go this Saturday, 10/10… to get a quote on a complete brake job, rotors, calipers, lines, etc. as well as the fuel tank and any necessary lines pertaining to the fuel system. Then, over the winter, if everything goes as planned… a 428 will be sitting in it and we’ll be driving it to the first available car show! Here’s a picture of my 17 year old son, Dewey (Hence the ‘Dewgar’ nick name for his car!)
I say do the brake job in the driveway one wheel at a time sitting on a milk crate! Super easy to do, parts are cheap and it only requires basic hand tools. I was helping one of my sons friends do brakes by flashlight in the driveway just last night on his 2006 Audi. I was not 100% sure we were doing it right but with the help of youtube we muddled through it. When we were done the kid was all smiles and stood taller. I doubt he will ever forget his first major repair on his first car after getting his drivers license 2 weeks ago.
Hahaha… oh boy! A mechanic, I am not… but, I have been a auto body technician, having had my own business for over 25 years. So, perhaps next year, we’ll handle transforming the Cougar back to it’s original color… that will save my boy a healthy chunk of change! I do custom paint, sword striping, and specialize in the restoration of vintage tin… Here’s a couple motorcycle tanks I did a couple years back… and the black car is a 61 Dodge Polara I bought out of a field in 2015 and redone…
But… Your kid may have skills you do not. I say encourage him to try!
My son got to drive the R Code yesterday for the first time… just up the road and back. It’s the first time the car has been driven under it’s own power in a very long time. He may take his drivers test in it… he only has his permit now… haha. Great day!
Almost 60 degrees in N.W. Montana today… My son took me for a ride to, Lake Blaine… that smile says it all…
Any updates on progress with the car ?
Corndog67, the Calypso Cat was tossed out the window but landed on its feet. It has a good home and you are welcome to more info if interested. I am getting ready to send Matt and Dewgar a 1 year update as well.
Thanks
Kerry
It certainly couldn’t have landed in better hands!
Please do keep us updated - it is looking resplendent BTW!
