Just an update to this thread while working on this amazing car. I had to remove the oil sender adapter to get to the bolts on the fuel pump. New rubber fuel line installed from the apron to the new Carter X Fuel pump. Correct clamps with square ends used. New grommet used at the apron. Then came the hard part: Installing the new fuel pump to carb line.
Some observations here:
The prebent line is very close to correct as regards the angles and bends.(bought form WCCC).
It threads in between the water pump and the a/c and p/s pumps without removing them.
The issue is the clearance at the fitting at the fuel pump- it must line up at exactly the right angle or- no go.
The fix is to loosen the PS pump, remove the belt, then remove the lower bolt and after undoing the PS cooler, swing the PS pump ALL THE WAY left toward the apron. If you do not remove the lower bolt completely, there is not enough room for the fuel line to line up with the Cartier X fuel pump fitting, bc the PS pump has to swing beyond where that lower bolt would hit the end of the slide. THIS IS THE KEY.
Also, the old fuel line was installed lateral to the coil- that is incorrect, at least per Anghel restoration photos. The new line is installed medial to or to the right of the coil.
Now to deal with the rocker panels, and install the new wheels.
Well, A progress update: The new Rocker moldings are on, and the new Wheels and tires are mounted. A final tune and paint buff and wax…and DONE. I have included before and after picks with redline tires and steel wheels vs new RWL tires on Legendary rims.
May relist on BAT as the before and after is, IMO, rather pronounced.
Overall, yes I was happy with the moldings. Certainly being made of Stainless steel rather than aluminum, they are far less flimsy and much less difficult to damage upon installation (don’t ask me how I know that). But oh boy- you need to possess some serious hand strength if you are not going to use a mallet to get them on.
The car looks great. The legendary wheels and white letter tires make it look just right. How did the original rocker molding clips work with the Burton and Bragg moldings? Were the clips they included the same as the original clips? Again just a gorgeous ‘vert.
The B&B stainless mouldings came with their own clips, which I used. They are VERY tight and difficult to get on, but once in place they look great. SO nice to have moulding with no screws in them. Look for the car to be relisted on BAT in the coming weeks. Had to wait on the state of TX to get the title right- they were one digit off, and titled it as a Mercedes (MERZ) vs a Mercury (MERC). so not one, but 2 mistakes. And it will include a lot of take-off parts when it goes to the new owner.
Absolutely stunning color combo Who ever ordered this car new checked all the right boxes. Good luck with the sale.Oh btw the Legendary wheels look right at home on this car!
If the new owner of this awesome car would like to go back to the whitewall/ wheelcover combo I have a friend that has a set of NOS hubcaps for a 1969 XR-7. Apparently they were a 1 year only wheel cover. I know for any judging purpose they would be required but personally I would take the point deduction and keep the combo that is on the car Just let me know and I can forward the info.
