I looking for an original AM/8 track complete in working condition with a Cougar on the faceplate. Right now, I have an AM/FM 8 Track but no Cougar on the faceplate.
Your radio is likely the original one. Read the number stamped on the side - what is it?
AM/FM 8 track was not available in 1970 on a Cougar.
Factory choices with Retail and Dealer costs
None ordered (commonly called out as Radio Delete but technically not)
AM Radio $60.90 $48.16
Comb AM Rad/Ster Son Tape Sys $195.60 $154.72 (8 track)
AM/FM Stereo Radio $212.50 $168.04
Dave makes a legitimate point. AM FM 8 track stereo was available maybe 1974 ish or so and it would fit the original opening.
My car is with the following features:- Black Full Vinyl Roof- E78X14 Belted White Sidewall Tires- Console- Power Front Disc Brakes- Power Steering- Air Conditioner - Whisper-Aire- AM/8-Track Stereo Radio- Tinted Glass-Complete.
My AM/FM 8 track is in the car so I would have to remove to see the markings on the side. It would be nice to see a picture of an original one. I recently saw a picture of one that had the word COUGAR above radio channels. I’m not sure what was special on the radio/8 track for the Cougar then.
Thank you for your response.

Thank you, I just saw that. I’m not going to hold my breathe on them not unless he finds one on a trip someplace. If you know of a source or find one, please let me know.

Gene
The AM radio for both 1969 and 1970 was imprinted with PHILCO in the clear plastic radio channel lens.
The AM/FM radio in 1969 only had the radio channels imprinted on the clear lens. In 1970 it was imprinted with COUGAR ( as well as the radio channels )
The AM radio-Stereosonic 8-track had no imprinted name on the small clear radio channel lens, and had COUGAR embossed onto the tape flip-door ( for both 1969 and 1970 )
Great to know! Thank you for sharing your knowledge on this subject.

Gene
i have the same one and missing same Botten for sale
Thank you for the pictures. After looking at the surounding area of the radio channel screen, it’s very “Plain Jane” style for a classic luxury car.
Hello, can you take a few pictures of yours?
Gene
Its on ebay
Thank you for the picture. I just saw it on ebay.

Actually you could get an 8track from the factory in a Cougar from 1967 through at least 1973
You could get AM/8 track, but not AM/FM/8 track which is what 70b302cat was saying. I always thought 1969 was first year they were offered. But it looks like you are right ShawnC, 1967 was actually the first year Ford offered the 8 track option on their vehicles!
September 1965 for the '66 mustang an 8-track was avaliable.
Hello, I did find one on Ebay. It’s coming from Ontario, Canada. It’s been professionally serviced with several componets replaced. It is fully functional. I get it next week but it was a little pricey. It should be well worth it.
