+3" leaf springs

I was wondering if anyone has installed a set of + 3" rear leaf springs on a 69 - 70 .

Ok, I’m a relative noob…what are “+3” leaf springs"…?

General spring offers a pair of rear leafs that they have 3 inches more arc

Ah, ok. That’s where I bought my replacements, but at that time, IIRC, they only had the stock, and “improved handling”, which is what I went with.

what year cougar

68 here. I see they are offering the “+3” for first gen’s now, too.

I know this is an older post, but will these leafs really lift my car 3 inches? Isn’t that excessive?

It most likely will end up with between 2.75" and 3" lift depending on trim package, engine, etc. But generally the advertised numbers on lift springs is Pretty accurate. My personal opinion is YES, 3 inches is excessive, when you factor in larger rear tires to fill the wheel well. The Cougar was lower in the rear from the factory than the front. Depending on engine and trim again, however it was only something like 1/2" or so? I personally am going to run with a 1" raise in the rear, and a 1" drop in the front with a 28" tall tire size in the rear. I’m hoping this will give me about 2" over all difference. A nice raked look, but not “stink-bugish” That 2 inches is after the larger rear tires. If you want to wait 5-6 weeks to see what kind of difference it makes (custom wheels will take 5-6 weeks) I can post up some pics of how the “rake” turns out. If no one else has pics like this already?

Seconded.

I had my leaf springs manufactured locally, and specified that they add 1" to the Free-arc. About $170 per.

Still waiting to get the body back from paint… :wall:

I got mine from Calvert Racing. Mine are more for drag than street. Think they were only $350 for the set.

Yes, post some pictures. Right now I got the original leafs with air shocks. I would like a litte lift, but 3 inches may be too much. I’ll decide once I see the pics. THANKS

Ok, It will just take those few weeks for me to get my wheels in. I’ll also get the engine back in during that time so the weight will give it the proper stance. I will definitely post up the pics.
