4r70w conversion 1968 cougar

Anyone done or doing a 1968 cougar or mustang
4r70w conversion ?

Going to go with a full manual valve body to do away with the electronics .
Change the trans , haha haha i said trans lol
Cross member have that figured out .
Drive Shaft will have to be shortened .5 inch.
Kick down cable and speedo cable still.
Anymore know what’s those about.
Info , part numbers . ?

I put a 4R70w behind a 390 stroked to 445 in a 69 Eliminator.
Not sure why you would want to go manual valve body…why?
With the 4R70w, there will be no kickdown cable. Unless you are talking about a regular AOD which has what is actually called a Throttle Valve cable and has no electronics.

Not sure why you would want to do away with the electronics… This is the best part… I have a 4R70W behind 351W in 68 XR7… Best thing ever… Using US Shift Quick 4 to control the the trans… You can program when to shift each gear, how hard to shift, etc… For Cross Member I just cut and welded the original to be reworked… I had a new driveshaft made up… Wanted to get rid of the original with rubber in it anyway… Make sure you get a 4R70W off a 3.8L… The 4R70W off a modular engine has different bolt pattern to engine block… You will require a 164 tooth flexplate with your engines specific imbalance… Hope this helps…

Yes. I did 15 years ago. 4R70W from 99 6 cyl mustang, Into a 68 XR7. Baumanator contoller. Still running it. Love it.
