5.0L Coyote

Recognizing that this is an old thread, I am sort of doing a half coyote swap. Putting the automatic 6R80 into a 68. Maybe look into Hane Performance, Mike Maier Inc., Sonnax, Stifflers or Chris Alston chassis works. They have parts for my automatic but could very well have parts for the manual trans too. Tremec has a phone app that calculates drive-line angle etc… It’s been handy so far. Good Luck!

Thank you.

Maybe this might help.

The Stiffler’s cross member is most likely what I will try to use for the 6R80 automatic. With any luck it will clear my exhaust and bolt up to the subframe with only minor modification.

Looks like it would work for you but from what I can see on the Summit page it appears that you have to weld in the new crossmember attachments after cutting out the OEM transmission mounting crossmember. Not a bolt in.

Good points. I should have the 6R80 mated to the block in a couple of days. Then I can start sizing up mounts. Ultimately I need to think about the cross member, mount, frame connectors and driveshaft loop long term. The original cross member isn’t coming out but I’ve had to make some indents.

I would worry about the drive shaft tunnel too. Likely it isn’t big enough and will need some rework.

I’m curious to know if/how much trans tunnel modifications you had to make to install the 6 speed Tremec in the car? I’ve read where the 5 speed will go in with no tunnel mods needed, but the 6 speed wouldn’t, and you can’t use a factory console with the 6 speed.
Want to put in a 6 speed in my 69, but want to use a factory console.

Our local Tremec dealer / installer always cuts the floor for installation in an early Mustang / Ford. He claims it is the only way to get proper driveline angle configuration, particularly if the car is lowered (there are others that disagree with him)

He makes a cut along the top of the tunnel below where it rolls over from horizontal to vertical from behind the drop for the bell housing to behind the end of the T56, without cutting across at the firewall end. He then lifts that piece up and fills the gap (sort of reverse pie cut)

Not sure what impact it has on the the welded tunnel brace as I’ve only seen pictures from the top

Look at the Tremec TKX 5 speed transmission. About the same size as a T5 and but rated at 600 ft-lbs of torque and 7500 rpm shifting. That is what I am working on and seems like it will work with cougar floor console with no mods.

I am planning on installing a Gen3 Coyote with a Tremec TKX 5 speed into my 67 Cougar XR7. Currently working on installing TCI front suspension, TCI rear suspension with torque arm and subframe connectors and fender flairs all around for big tires. Engine and tranny to install late summer or early fall.
