650cfm Demon carboreator no choke?

I`m building a '69 351w and have a line on a Demon 650 carb. It is 060 over with flat tops and a 480 lift cam roller tip rockers an Edlebrock Performer and stock exhaust. The carb is a mechanical secondarys with no choke. Won’t be an everyday driver and I live in Washington St so cold mornings at times. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I had a demon carb before and liked it, but I’m thinking you would be happier having a choke. Generally the idea behind vacuum vs mech. Secondaries is that lighter stick cars use mechanical and heavier auto cars use vaccuum. I’m not sure what year your car is or what you are going to be weighing or what tranny you have. It’s probably not the ideal carb but it would be better than a stock carb if its a really good deal

You have a really mild engine, with a near stock camshaft. You should save your money for a carb with vacuum secondaries and a choke.

Its going in my 70 XR7 Stock FMX auto. 3.0 9 inch rear. I can get it for @175.00 and it looks as new. So the consensus is walk.

I would definitely go with a choke regardless of how mild or wild the cam. What are the specs on that cam besides lift? Lift only tells part of the story .050" duration, total duration, and lobe separation all count on cam size or profile.

Depends what you do with the car. I live north of you and don’t have my electric choke hooked up. Also which demon line is it? If you get it cheap enough you can try it out and if you don’t like it just re sell it on craigslist

Also, you could buy the choke kit for it. Doesn’t have to be an auto choke. Hand chokes do just fine. The idea of a choke is to help with fuel puddling on a cold engine. If you are getting it for that price, it would be worth the extra few dollars to put a choke on it.
