67 289 power steering hose straps

I got my parts back from the restoration shop. They informed me how the hoses were fastened originally. I then realized I am missing the bracket that holds them against the shock tower and the 2 straps. I found the bracket at wccc but I didn’t see the straps. Does anyone know what they look like or better yet, where to find them?

Here are pics from my 1967 Standard. This car was purchased new by my wife’s grandmother in 1967. I’ve been wrenching on this vehicle since 1982. Other than replacing the suspension and some few electrical upgrades, this car is unmolested!!

Coach Jack,
Thank you for the picture. It is really neat that you have kept it mostly original. Thanks a bunch for sharing that!
I see the rubber strap and you also have the loop before it goes into the pump. My pump was also missing the hose retaining bracket that attaches to the pump.

So, earlier today, I peeked at the mustang site and saw the same rubber straps that you have. I’ve located the two holes for them and also the location for the bracket with insulator.

Decided to make them. Probably a little thicker than original, though.

With the other missing pieces being sent from wccc, I should be ok.

On a side note, thinking of the two holes for the strap. I read that they were made with self tapping screws. Is that what you have? My hole for the strap closest to the pump is closer to the apron than your hole. So it would make sense that there was no exact location.

Appreciate your help!

Morning coachJack,
After studying your great pictures, I see something I wanted to ask.

Here is a picture of what I was given with my freshly restored power steering components.

I believe this is a picture of a mustang. You can see 2 straps that loop around the hoses.

It looks like, in your picture, that your strap is attached from the lower hole to the upper hole. As if to hold them against the shock tower. Is that correct?
Also, what I find most interesting, I haven’t seen anywhere else, is that you have a 2nd sleeve around your high pressure hose that looks just like the same material that was used for making the straps? Is that correct?

Thanks for your time

At least two types of fasteners were used to attach the strap to the shock tower. Also a button head push in fastener with scissor action to lock.

Attached are 2 more pictures taken from underneath the car. I verified that on my 67, the screws are self tapping screws albeit they are quite large. As afar as the one picture you have with the pencil pointing to a small hole The first picture below shows that there is a small hole near the bottom of the shock tower yet on my car the self tapping screw is located above it by an inch or so.

Let me know if you any more pictures, Ill jack the car up and take more if need be.

Wow, that is awesome! Thank you for posting those pictures.
I can see the ribs on the upper strap confused me, at first. It’s clear the ribs on the lower strap are horizontal. So what I thought was a second sleeve is the strap. That’s the way I see it now, anyway. You’ve answered all my questions.
Much respect to you coach! Thanks

Thank you, CJ! I appreciate your input. I’ll be honest and say I have no idea what that could look like. I’m really green though, compared to what you have seen.

Is this what you are referring to?

The 2 holes I’m working with are too big for a 1/4” screw. Too small for 5/16. Doesn’t appear to ever had a screw in them. It’s a clean hole with no threads I can see.
I wouldn’t mind using the correct fastener. Thanks

Yes, that is the fastener.

I’m having a hard time finding the spot where this part goes. https://secure.cougarpartscatalog.com/c7az-3c511-b.html

I thought it mounts to the pump and supports the hose but I’m not sure now. Can someone help with a picture or a description? Thanks

I received the 2 button head fasteners. They were the cheapest price I found at $12 shipped from the same town my brother & I were born. Amazing! because my bro found this car.

Thanks for the insight and confirmation. I finally figured that out just now. I can see how it would help support the pump,I guess, but not the high pressure hose. I actually bought it and now I don’t know if it was a mistake.

I’m confused because this is what I was thinking it was. 67 68 MUSTANG COUGAR 289 302 POWER STEERING PUMP INDEXING BRACKET | eBay

It mounts the same but has another portion that supports the hose before the pump.
Any thoughts on these 2 different brackets? Was it a Mustang only part?

Ok, sorry about the confusion. I read on another forum that the indexing bracket I bought is in fact the correct part for 67’. I now see it in coach Jack’s first picture.

The other one that supports the hose was a 68’ part for 289/302.
Thank you gah, for the help.

Cougar brothers, I think I might need some more advice.

I have a question:: should I bend the metal tubes away from each other so the rubber portions are not touching, before they enter the first clamp?

^^^wheels turned full left

Wheels turned full right

Wheels straight.
The two tubes were heading towards the front of the car and I didn’t really like that, so I’ve already bent them a tiny bit so they are pointing up, now.

Other than that I’ll show you the rest. If you see anything I should change, please let me know. Thanks

In case you missed it, this is a 68’ index bracket. I felt it is better than the 67’, although, I could be wrong.

Folks…..Everything is great, I’m back on the road. Slight leak at the control valve on the return line but tightened it for HELL and that worked.

Good to hear you got your Cat back on the road!!

If your leak reappears in the future, you really need to replace the seats in the control valve.

Enjoy the ride

Appreciate it, thank you Coach Jack!

Dan & Carol in Murryville, Ill @ Chockostang did the rebuild on what I sent them.
He asked me 3 questions after I told him what I wanted.
What year, what size, did it have a loop in the line?
After that he said he’d set it up correctly and I could trust him to send it back to me ready to install.
That is exactly what he did, in under a week.
Sent it back with that picture in post #4 above. I figured that was above and beyond. Making sure I knew how it was supposed to be secured. Great guy, great customer service!

What I did with that picture was up to me.

That’s where you guys came to help me finish it up with your replies here. Thank you so much!
