I was thinking of upgrading the heads on my 69 something with a lot more meat on them.
AFR/ TWISTED WEDGE are what I’m leaning towards. Thoughts, comments, experiences, suggestions?

I have AFR heads on the race car. No issues and they’re great cylinder heads. Twisted wedge would be a good choice as well. Don’t think you can go wrong picking between the two choices.
Probably the best head design out there. Be aware that on some of the bigger port heads the bottom of the port may not line up with a stock intake location so some some intake porting might be necessary.
Also, the exhaust ports are offered with the wide bolt pattern but you would need to get headers from someone like Ford Powertrain…he makes an AFR wide-port header for our cars.
Thanks for the replies. I’ve been studying heads for last week or 2.
Ive learned procomp or whatever their new name are absolute crap. They have actually been shown to reduce horsepower.
Aluminum isnt only light but helps an engine with dissipating heat.
In regards to flow those seem to be very highly rated.
It also looks like I’m going to have to have my pistons notched when I go this route.
Since you mentioned the stock intake, are the intakes that are usually recommended with those heads (ie much higher) able to fit in a 69 Cougar with typical size carb and air cleaner without a hood scoop? Ie can they usually clear the hood?
Also I have headers on my 351w so hopefully they can work. I wasnt aware that modifications there would be needed.
I have the AFR 205 heads on a 351w stroked to 408 in a 67 Cougar. With the Edelbrock Victor Intake manifold the hood clearance is very tight. I had to check dimensions on a air cleaner and do some modifications in order for it to clear the hood. I also have adjustable motor mount and they’re set as far down and back as I can go. I running the FPA neck down headers which fit great and a very nice header, but pricey. My pistons were already cut but still had clearance issues on the exhaust. I had get them fly cut deeper for clearance, but I’m also running a very high lift cam that you wouldn’t want to use on the street.
I’m running AFR outlaw heads with the wider bolt pattern so I could use 2" primary headers…I’ve run a lot of different heads over the past thirty five years, but these are really impressive. Highly recommend AFR heads.
