Barrett-Jackson, here I come in more ways.....

I want to go, but don’t know if I can get off work. I just transferred to a different unit within the USPS-Cleveland delivery area, and everybody is very senior. Heck, one of the guys who retired last year from this unit had 55 years with the company! I have 31 years with the Postal Service, and I’m 8th in seniority out of the 11 routes in this unit. Only 1 allowed off at any one time, and being it is near the MLK Federal holiday (and in the middle of a Cleveland winter) I can pretty much guarantee that the senior guys will take that opportunity. I won’t know until we start picking our vacations for next year in another month or so.

For those going to BJ this year and who also may buy their tickets online (the way I usually do it) BJ just sent me the following alert offering 2 for 1 tickets purchased on “Black” Friday. I don’t know if you need that exclamation mark or not.

BLACK FRIDAY SALE: BUY 1 GET 1 FREE THIS FRIDAY ONLY! GO 2 http://www.barrett-jackson.com/tickets/ AND ENTER IN BLKFR241!

I was just offered a lot number that would place me Thursday afternoon before 5PM prime time. The time slot is $700. I humbly and respectfully requested a 5-10PM prime time spot. They said they will get back with me next week after speaking to Steve. 5-10PM time slots start at $900. I figure it’s good money spent. This car actually drives better than it looks. I’m going to miss it. It’s really a sweetheart of a car.

Hope you get a good spot. I’ll be watching!
Your goiong to miss it? Ok, I have to ask. Then why are you selling?

I’ll be there as well. Can’t wait to see another Cougar cross the block. Good luck Ray!!!

I guy from the show “American Pickers” says it best. “The trick is not necessisarily to have all the toys…but to play with all the toys” I have two other 68 Cougars. I’ve had my time with this one and now I want to want to diversify into other cars. My barn is only so big. An ongoing love of mine is a '35-'36 Ford pickup truck. There is an all original '36 Vernor’s Ginger Ale delivery truck here is town. 1.5 ton, short bed, all green cab. Talk about curvy and sexy! I’m in love all over again. Cougars are my first love, however.

So after they charge you to list your car, charge you for your time slot, charge you a sellers fee, etc., how much does it actually cost to sell a car? Apparently they don’t have enough competition like other major auction companies. They all scramble and cut deals to anyone that’s got something half way decent to sell. But I think the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard is charging buyers to get in the auction room. Imagine if you went to the Apple Store and they charged you admission to get in the door. Would they still sell near as many iphones?

Well, as Mark is so fond of saying, Al…“That’s just the price of COOL…”…

LOL. Yeah we’re a cool bunch. I think people view us as bigger nerds than stamp collectors. :ugeek:

Cool? Now that made me think, yeah it hurts when that happens. I wonder if kids these days think we’re cool! Wonder what the average age of the members on this board is? I mean actual, not mental…

Every one of my friends and acquaintances has said my Cougar is the coolest car they’ve seen or been in, for the most part. One friend even commented that I need to get a better haircut now because I have a muscle car not a nerd car, something to that effect. I have to wonder though, if my Cougar were not black but rather still the original Lime Frost with gold interior, would anybody think of it as cool? I have a feeling the black paint goes a long way towards coolness.

I’m also in my 30’s, and most of these folks who think my Cougar is cool are in their 20’s-40’s.

Dude. Cougars are beyond cool. Coolest car ever. C’mon!

Of course they are. And there’s nothing wrong with being a car geek.

Does anyone have any insight as to whether the Augusta Green GTE is gunna be sold at BJ? I have this fantasy about having the cars run across the block, back to back.

I think it’s not gonna happen, Ray. Which is too bad…this would be the best way to sell that car, by far. Oh well…you’ll have to REPRESENT. I’m very excited for you:)

On another note, my buddy Mike has gotten his '73 Bronco in! It’s Tuesday and pretty early, but if what you said about 5,000 applicants for 1100 spots is the case, he did pretty well…

Oh, on yet another note…if we go to the Rose Bowl, I have to bow out of going to Scottsdale ;( I am a bit torn here to say the least.

Cheers, GO GREEN! B

I just had a 16 year old over at the shop the other night…the boy of my wife’s friend. He did a double-take when he saw the GT and Blackie next to each other as he was clear over in the other corner…he said “Wow, are those your Mercurys?!, I didn’t even see them till just now. Nice!” Warmed my heart, and it was pretty neat to see the knowlege and excitement out of a 16 year old kid. He obviously has very good taste

He wins a ride in a Cougar…

Ray,

You got a nice little booste for Barrett Jackson I saw in a MAJOR auto collector magazine yesterday. Sports Car Market is the bible of High-End Collector Cars and the marketplace. They cover each and every auction around the Nation and World. Usually focused on the ultra-expensive ones that make us muscle-car enthusiasts look and feel downright poor, they also do a good job of assessing American Muscle and Pony Cars.

They had a little magazine insert in their latest Monthly issue called “Arizona Auction Preview”, in which there was a section on American Pony Cars. Gunner was pictured and they mentioned the Cougar as one of the “up and coming” collecible pony cars. They said the entire Cougar market should be getting better, and challenged buyers to go find themselves a Boss 302 Eliminator, too, while they are looking for cars that folks will cherish as time goes bye…these little blips somehow help justify a millionaire’s expenditures on a car that their wife, their friends, even themselves had not thought to spend $ on in years past. All publicity helps.

I think your '67 XR-7 GT 4 Speed is something that will catch a lot of eyes if there are people literally looking for “something new” out there to be had as a collectible. After all, this is the top of the line, most loaded Cougar available in it’s FIRST YEAR of production. That is special. Something their friends don’t have. Something they hadn’t considered until January of '12. Something they might not have even known about. That is how it went down with the buyer of Gunner last year. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again-he is a 3rd Generation Ford Dealer and he had never heard of a Cougar GT-E 427 before. This kind of buyer is out there and they are hungry for something new, something different.

Although a GT Cougar is probably known by most enthusiasts and collectors, When the car is right there in front of them, all pretty and shiny, actually SELLING right in front of them, it is a different thing. The environment there creates a bit of a competition, and the Cougars aren’t exactly something that come along each auction day…There ought to be a lot of folks with 40-50K around burning a hole in their wallets that will totally DIG on your car

I hasten to guess what the car will bring. But I’ll bet on 50k or higher before I’d bet on 40k or lower.

I agree with you Brian and we’ll have to wait and see on the settled in time slot for Ray. Then we can start the “guess that selling price” thread. I’m looking foward to attending especially after this week recieving 10’ of snow and losing power for two days…

MSU got there work cut out for them to attend the rose bowl. More likely maybe the liberty bowl, so I’ll see you in Scottsdale

“More likely”? Hmm…I smell either a Wolverine or an insecure Spartan Fan here

I’ll address this after this pesky game we have tomorrow night !

Brian Good Luck on your game!! I won’t go so far as to say Go Gr*#n but hey! I wish your team well and Have fun at the Auction…LOL Harvey
