I had your same dilemma while I was replacing the fuzzies on my rear panels. The plastic has turned into something that resembles peanut brittle.
Gorilla glue water proof paste is what I used. It is used to fill gaps and cracks, dries hard but has a little flex. Went on really thick, which made it tricky to keep the plastic panel from breaking more. It is something I thought you may consider. Keep up the great progress.
