Camera Case Material

Ive been putting this off for a while and finally did a test of the material I found. I need the Eliminator experts to take a look and see if you think this is close to the original camera case finish. My original was sprayed with wrinkle paint sometime in the past and it looked like absolute crap. Additionally someone bent the sh#% out of the parts removing them the first time.

Let me know what you think.

I am not an expert, but it looks good to me, which did you go with?

I’d say most people would be hard pressed to know any different .
Without an original to compare side by side, I’d say you’re Good.

Here an original for comparison…

(I think the restored version above is a bit more “pebbly” grained. But like everyone else said, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference).

Thanks Mike, my original was so trashed I didn’t have a baseline to compare it with.

Mike, can you add a picture of the back side of the cover so I can see the method used to secure the two parts together. Mine has some weird clips I had to remove to separate it.

Thanks!

The new stuff looks somewhat finer. But, without the two pieces side by side or two pictures at the same scale side by side it would be hard to tell. So far this is the best way.

Nice color combo. My Elim is also Comp Orange with white.

The passenger side panel is held in place by several large clips. Probably the ones you found on your part. The clip is the same height as the panel and will have studs on them that extend through the backer piece to attach it all together and to the pad.

This is what I have for the back of the passenger side. Not exactly sure what we are looking at though, as I haven’t had one apart ~ these are just my “file photos”, so to speak.

Good point! Went out and snapped a few pics with a ruler for reference (those are Inches). This one seems to have turned out the best.

My question is, why won’t these people share where they find this material?

I found this on Amazon when I was looking at options for recovering my dash pad to cover the cracks.

Hay Catlover, I did state I would list where the material came from. I plan on making sure the supplier is OK with me listing them on the board and they haven’t gotten back to me yet. Additionally, you being a child and flaming me doesn’t motivate me to get that done, it just irritates me.

Oh, now you done gone and hurt my feelings, but thanks for the child remark. Love catlover

OK For anyone interested in using this material for their Eliminator dash, (even catlover) here is the contact information for my source:

Cameraleather is the company. The point of contact is Morgan and his email address is: info@cameraleather.com

email him and he will help you out. The one disclaimer he had was that the material is not made for car interiors so he can’t guarantee it will hold up to extreme conditions very well.

Good luck and I hope this helps anyone in need like I was. Also, if you find a better product i’d be happy to hear about it. I will eventually post pictures of the completed project. It might be a while.

Rick

Thanks Rick! I have been meaning to ask them for some samples to use for comparison. Glad you already have it sorted out
Can you tell us which of their leather types was the best match?

Thanks again for taking this on!

I simply contacted Morgan, Told him what I was doing and he sent me the camera case material he stocks. Sorry I dont have a better answer for you.

Rick

No worries Rick! I saw that they had a small variety of black camera case materials on their website, so I was curious which one you ended up using.

Thanks again for the info, I’m sure Eliminator owners everywhere will appreciate the info!

Hi Guys,

Rick sent me a small sample of the camera case material that he was sent and used for his panels. I took a quick comparison picture (below).
It’s a pretty close match ~ the original appears to have more of a “flat” surface, while the repro material seems more “pebble-y”. I think you would need to have seen originals before or have an original on hand to really tell the difference.

They sell different textures. That looks like the generic pebbled vinyl whereas the levant black might be a closer match.
