Didn’t have a lot of time to spend there, but I had a good time. Got to meet a few guys, saw some nice cars and even came home with a few parts.
As usual, I had a good time at the Carlisle show. Just picked-up where I left off last year with friends whom I only get to see at the show.
On the way down, my alternator went out Thursday somewhere a few miles before the exit. Luckily the light was green at the bottom of the off-ramp and I cruised right through. The voltage was so low it probably wouldn’t have stayed running at idle. I made it to the hotel and into a parking spot. Shut off the engine and then I tried to restart it and it just buzzed. Friday morning I put a new alternator in. Everything has been fine since.
This year I drove strait home, made it in 5 hours and 45 minutes. No gas stops, made it on one tank. I’m curious to top-off and see how much it actually used.
I’m already looking forward to next year.
Here was the Hotel Carlisle parking lot Saturday night, I guess I need a camera with a better flash.
My Cougar and Paul D’s Cougar on Sunday after most of the place has headed out.
Bill and I filling up Sunday morning----then we filled up at Bob Evans.
Al so who did you meet and what parts did you bring home? GTE parts or parts for your son’s Navy inspired Cougar project?
Glad to hear your alternator issues worked out well. It’s great to see the photos for those of us who were unable to attend. It’s great to see the photo of your Cougar along with Bill’s at the gas station. I’m sure driving beats trailering a Cougar every time.

Got to meet Phil Parcells who I have emailed a few times, but never met in person. That was a big deal for me since he got to meet my dad not long before he died. It was nice to hear about their conversation regarding GT-E’s since I was unable to be there. Phil also generously offered to help me out with the restoration. Also got to meet a couple local guys, Rob and Ray. Don’t remember their handles off the top of my head. But I’m sure we’ll get together again since they’re both close by. Unfortunately the parts I brought home were only the mundane variety, nothing exciting. But with so many projects I need to bring stuff home as often as I get the chance.
I hope you encouraged Phil to participate on the forum. He was an absolutely huge help to me when I acquired the 4 speed G car that was located in his backyard (upstate NY). Of course you guys probably already know that that he rescued the prototype GT-E used by the car mags for testing. It is a great story.
Actually that car was closer to me and I’m still highly offended that you didn’t ask for my help.
Yeah the story on his car is pretty cool. And being the dumbass that I am, I still haven’t made time to go see it. He’s only an hour or so from me.
I don’t think we met at the show. Did you bring a Cougar down? If not, will you be taking down a Cougar next year?
I did not have a Cougar there. I would like to tell you I’ll be bringing one next year, but if life continues to get in the way that won’t happen. But you never know, I may take a 6 month hiatus and do nothing but work on a car.
Life is a major hurdle in the way of restorations. I have about a dozen vehicles on my list to get done. Next year, car or not, if you can find more time to hang out by the Cougar tent at the show or in the hotel parking lot in the evening, we all have a good time and welcome new faces.
Another great year down at Carlisle. Great to see everyone again.
Met Jenny and her husband and finally hooked up with Al Bundy as well as a few others. .
Al,
I forgot to talk to you about your son going into the Navy. I am a Navy vet and my son is currently in the Navy. (Both of us in the submarine service)
NYcougarcat and I made it home OK but Rob developed a leak on his oil capillary tube. He had bought the brass kit at Carlisle!
Guess what he’ll be working on this week.
