Is it easier to add a clutch pedal to the automatic pedal assembly or just swap out for a whole new assembly for a manual trans? I know if I put just a clutch pedal on I have to cut the brake pedal down in size for the manual setup.
Does anyone have a whole manual assembly or clutch pedal that they want to sell?
Thanks for your time, Michael
Check with West Coast Classic Cougars. They may have a manual transmission pedal setup. When I had my previous projects converted from automatic as part of the overall restoration, both shops elected to swap out the entire assembly. Since I didn’t do the work myself, I can only assume that it was a better use of their time to do it that way.
Thanks CatVert68, I’ve looked on there and have found this and I might buy one:
Does anyone know if you have the automatic assembly can you put this kit on it and change you’re auto to a manual?? I’m assuming that the 2 assemblies are different.

This kit will work for either, it was an upgrade to eliminate the poor quality of bushings used in that era. Once done you shouldn’t ever have to take it apart again.
One thing to think of if you do buy a used assemble make sure you match it to your current brake set up. The rod to work the booster is differnt and the brakes wont work correctly.
Thank you 69MCODE, I think I will rework my assemble then and buy a clutch pedal. I might look for a brake petal then I don’t have to cut mine down if I ever want to put the car back to original.
Thanks again, Michael
Michael, I got alot of my conversion parts from “Modern Driveline”. The conversion to roller bearings is pretty easy really. (Youre GONNA want the pedal hanger assembly out anyhoo…) I used the new brake pedal pad as a template and cut down the brake pedal with my 4" cutoff.
Thanks 2NDXRND, I’ve been on Modern Driveline and found a lot of things that I could use and some that I don’t need but would like too! LOL Good to know on the roller bearing kit, I might cut my brake pedal down to save a buck. I just want the car to look original as possible, other then you’ll see the “5 Speed on top of the Hurst shifter” .
I pick up a “NEW” Tremec 3550, Bell housing, New hurst shifter and New tranny support off of craigslist for $800.00. I couldn’t believe that I found that but I did. [album]1064[/album]
Going to a Tremec 3550 do you have to do anything to the drive shaft?
Thanks again, Michael
