So today I dove in to replacing the back up light assemblies with the repro chrome pieces. As noted in Bill’s thread about product development, repro pieces are OK but many/most don’t fit that well. These chrome plated castings look good but fit is only OK.
I disassembled the old die cast cap with the chrome bit attached then pulled that piece off. Took the socket out by bending the tabs up. I inserted the socket and tapped the socket flange back down. Reloaded the LED bulb and then installed the new lens and gasket. The studs in the chrome piece were crusty so I replaced them with stainless steel studs that I had from another project. I had a torn rubber grommet and an abraded wire that I addressed. Then reassembled the LH side.
Have you noticed that the original lenses don’t fit those and those lenses don’t fit the original housings?
The repro lenses fit the repro housings very well. I didn’t try the repro lenses in the OEM housings.
I have had multiple tell me that they ran into problems trying to mix original lenses or housings with repro lenses or housings. You need to both parts be either original or repro, mixing does not work.

I’ve got a bit of wiring to do and need a couple of fasteners that I’ll grab at NPD tomorrow. After I took this picture I grabbed my bumper adjuster and tweaked it for better clearance on the RH side.
