Not for everyone for sure but I like them. I got the low beams this week. High beams are a ways out yet but will look the same. I’m cleaning then painting a set of stainless retainer rings black.
Today I’m headed to a friends fab shop to discuss two projects; a trunk panel over the fuel tank with access panels, and a front spoiler in aluminum that looks like the 69/70 Mustang design not the Eliminator design.
Tonight and tomorrow I’m getting the car ready for this weekends events-a big C&C Saturday morning and a small car show with my Dad on Sunday morning. That one is on an island near where he used to spend time as a kid growing up and includes a short ferry ride.
Broke down the cast taillight housings as the gaskets were all cracked and crumbling. I got the rubber off but the adhesive goo is still in place. I pulled the studs out of the housing and dropped them in a solvent bath to dissolve then sealant. I’ve decided to take these to my powder coating supplier to the housings blasted clean and powder coated then I’ll rebuild them with new gaskets, lighting, and grilles.
Tail ligt housings ang grill pcs will deform with normal pcoat. Either weld up angle iron racks to keep the lg parts from sagging or use low temp powder
You can straighten if bowed by warming with a propane torch
If you want the ribs shinny , soda blast, hang up side down, powder and wipe the rib with your finger. No sharp mask line
The housings are die cast and pretty beefy. I’ll discuss this with the guys who do my powder coating.
I bought a set of reproduction taillight grilles. They are gorgeous! Nothing required but bolting them on. I am awaiting a set or repro back-up light housings and lenses. I hope to have them next week.
Today’s C&C event. I arrived a bit before 8:00am and chose my spot. By 10:40am when I left there were 200-250 cars present.
Today was a car show on Harsens Island about an hour 15 minutes from my house. Beautiful early morning convertible drive-sunny and 70’s.
The Harsens Island show was nice but I believe that traditional local car shows are slowly dying off. The level of both participants and spectators at the show were both down dramatically (50%) compared to prior years according to long time participants I spoke with.
Tonight I dug in to my rear LED taillight conversion from Easy Performance. Years ago I bought a complete set of decent taillights. I tore these apart and started cleaning them by removing the crusty old gaskets after removing the grilles and lenses. I already polished the lenses after going thru a series of fine grit sandpaper. Tonight I drilled a single 3/16” hole in the drivers side housing and de burring both sides. I then ran a thread chaser thru all the 1/4-20 mounting bosses. Off to powder coat next.
For future me to remember, acetone removes the gasket adhesive really well. Typical paint thinner does not.
Just curious, what is the 3/16" hole for?

These lights offer a variety of canned sequences that are user selectable. The sequencer requires a separate power connection.
Thanks to Gary I got a new to me set of adjuster cups as the extra set I had has some incorrect parts. These and the trim rings went to my buddies powder coating shop for a coat of gloss black.
As noted previously, the PC guys said they could do the taillight housings but they might warp. Dang. They’re being walnut shell blasted and I’ll paint them prior to reassembly.
I picked up the bead blasted housings today and then went to NPD for the fuel door bumpers I forgot to pick up previously.
Storms ripping through the area tonight so painting them is out. I’ve got cans of self etching primer, standard primer, and satin black. I’ll mask and paint the area behind the reflector either silver or white then start the build.
I have nothing to contribute, other than letting you know I enjoy following this thread…. I will be picking over it when I come into both time & money!
Haha! Thanks for the laugh Jaymo!
Today I primed the taillight housings-self-etching primer followed by standard primer.
I also assembled the headlights.
I picked up my Dad this morning and we got a meal then headed to a Detroit area cruise.
I’ve got a C&C to attend tomorrow that I might drive to or might ride the mighty Duc.
It’s good to have choices!
