Do you Like this Hood Isulation pad?

You could have someone here in the states order it, receive it and ship it to you.

I would love to see a PROPER reproduction hood pad. I would pay $$$ for one if correct. And I would buy 3 of them

I might not buy three but would also open my wallet to a correct reproduction.

I’m in for 2.

I prefer the look of my uninsulated hood.

Also, I like the looks of this uninsulated hood pictured in another part of the forum…

Not that the the under hood looks bad. Not at all. But the original pads where really pretty cool. Totally molded to fit the contours. Which is the reason they would be so costly to reproduce.

Totally regret tossing the one on my '67 when i had under the hood painted when i first got it. Was a bit weathered but still in great shape. Had i only known they were made of unobtainium I would have had it restored.

This is the original one on my 1970 Super Drag Pak BOSS 302 for reference.

According to my MEL MPC (4/1973) and my Ford MPC (5/1975) the service part numbers are as follows for both Mustang and Cougar.

67/8 C7ZZ 16740-A 32 15/32" long
69/70 C9ZZ 16740-A 32 29/32" long
71 D1ZZ 16740-A 45 3/8" long

I measured the one below this morning and it is ~35" long leading me to believe that the service part is different than the assembly line part as I do not have older MEL MPC’s to compare. I had previously looked into buying a used one off of a 1970 Mustang that was definitely shorter.

Can someone please explain what year and models would have come with a hood insulation pad? Don’t recall either of my '69s having one, but it has been over 40 years ago. Thanks!

All 1967-1973 Cougars left the factory with a hood insulation pad. The only exception would be if the car was equipped with ram air, then no pad.

Thanks CATHOUSE, that adds another thing for me to do when I start working on my project car.

As far as Don’s OP, I’m not a fan of straying from original when not necessary, but I don’t think the ABS sheet over insulation padding looks too bad. A suggestion to help with the appearance would be to round the corners on the ABS to give it a little more organic look.

That’s my ‘68 without a hood pad (“Ed Day”), Messenger; it does look good in that pic, but if you’ll recall, the hoods’ undersides had tack-welded reinforcements that weren’t meant to be seen. At 12 inches it doesn’t present as well. Mine had one of the dead-flat aftermarket replacements that had drawn in a mouse - I caught it after a few weeks - so I ashcanned it. So far I haven’t had an urge to replace it, so we agree.

A man could buy one of the flat ones, saber-saw some plywood forms, then weight down the parts Ford press-formed and steam the whole mess. wonder how it would turn out!

Interesting idea but doubt whatever the reproduction pads are made of would hold a shape. Stuff is like some sort of thick felt.
