Trying to get an update added before the January auctions come around! Hope you have a happy holiday season - and a great auction season, for those of you who will be participating :slight_smile:

BEWARE OF SCAM LISTINGS OF ELIMINATORS FOR SALE!
Scammers are using pictures from legitimate listings (old and current) and passing them off as their car that is for sale, at prices well below market value. Always verify the car is real and the VIN is legitimate by checking with the CCOA or Eliminator Registry.
Also be sure to order your own Marti Report. Scammers have been doctoring Marti’s and changing VINs. Marti will not charge you for an invalid VIN.
Never send a deposit without confirming there is actually a real Eliminator associated with the listing.
And as always, remember that if it is too good to be true then it is probably a scam.

I’m gonna disagree about that. IMO, Eliminator prices are still down / soft - especially when compared to where they were 2 years ago.

Mike this cat was special as far as the paint and options. 3 CJ/SCJ Eliminators advertised currently in 200k range. Like it or not. This auction sale will lift prices. Market will dictate a point in time. But do agree market soft do to less money to go around.

This one was definitely special! …yet it sold for less than the asking price of the other CJ / SCJ Eliminators that are currently listed. As we both know, “advertised” price is not the same thing as “sold for” price. Those other CJ / SCJ Eliminators have been for sale at that price point for a long time.

The high water mark was summer of 2022, when we had 2 comp blue CJ / automatics with older, driver-quality restorations sell for around $150k, as well as other '70’s selling like hot-cakes. A few weeks ago at Mecum Kissimmee we had a freshly-restored, highly optioned CJ / auto Eliminator struggle to bring $120k, and now a 1-of-3 in Black, SCJ / 4-speed “only” brought $200k.

An interesting thing to point out is that one of the comp blue CJ’s that sold for $150k in 2022 is now for sale for $220k. It recently bid to $120k in an online auction.

IMO, that is not an indicator that prices are up for big block Eliminators :-/

Oh, I agree that it will lift PRICES ~ everyone will think their Cougar is worth a million bucks cuz they “saw one just like it at Barrett-Jackson”. The January auctions always increase interest in Eliminators, and we typically see the Market List get whittled down through February as folks shop for E-cats over the next month or so.

But will they be buying up the $200k CJ’s cars, or will they pick up cheaper drivers and project cars instead?

I’d say you’re getting more than just a VIN. It’s not like the unibody is totally roached out.

I was being a bit facetious but without any of the original drive train and basically needing a complete restoration with a ton of expensive parts, it’s difficult to see how you come out ahead even on a very desirable and rare Boss cat like this. But that’s me, who can’t do the body stuff myself.

The Mainly Muscle Cars 70 Sun Roof Eliminator has a new home in the area. The new owner is in the Graner Falls area of Washington state. I may get to see it here and there.
