1969 Cougar Eliminator R Code Body (Albany, NH)


I have a 1969 Cougar Eliminator Body for sale. She is pretty rough but it is worth restoring to the right person. This is an R Code 428 SCJ Body in Grabber Orange with a black interior. No Motor or Drivetrain. The Hood is missing and a lot of the interior. Dash looks to be complete. The Rearend is there but the pumpkin is missing. Rear springs are broken so the axle is all a float under the car. I have extra body panels from another 69 that will go with it including a pair of fenders and doors. I have the original Build sheet and it was part of the Hertz Rent a Racer program. It had every available option except for A/C. I’ve owned the car for 25 years and has been sitting that whole time waiting to be restored. I’ve come to the realization that I will never have the time or money to do it. I’m not sure what it’s worth in this condition so I’m leaving it to the best offer. Fully restored this car is worth $50-60K or more. Serious inquiries only please. Spoke with the owner of 9F91R563268 this evening - Jim Abbot.

He has owned the car for 25 years and it was in sad shape when he bought it. It came to him without the drivetrain, and the previous owner had raced it and put in a 4-speed at some point – the 3 pedals setup is still in the car, although it was originally an automatic car. Jim believes it was a Hertz car, although his Marti report only calls out “Dealer Lease”. Either way, it was a heavily optioned car!

Marti says it is a 1969 Eliminator with 428SCJ, Ram-Air, Auto, 4.30 gear car. Comp orange with black interior.
Power windows, console, PB, PS, Tilt Steering, AM radio, Decor group, Tinted glass.

Unfortunately, it has been a North East car its whole life, so the underside is “Flintstone mobile” according to Jim. He’s decided to sell it because he has had it so long and not done anything with it, and doesn’t feel he will be able to in the foreseeable future.

Need to get a ruling from Dave Wyras, but I believe that all of the 1969 Hertz rental Eliminators were M code sunroofs. Most likely May built 1969, I heard that there may have been 101 made for Hertz in 1969?

The first batch of Eliminators was a fleet for Hertz. 101 of them. They were all M code, FMX, p/s, p/b and a/c and had sunroof. Is it possible Hertz ordered more Eliminators later on? Not sure, never heard any info about it. But, then again, I think the main focus usually was Eliminators with a sunroof. Not so much on any and all Eliminators ordered by Hertz.

Dave emailed me about it and said it would not have been a Hertz car. So it was probably a Lease car of some sort.
