Just pulled the exhaust out of my 68 XR7 and the hangars, particularly the rubbers are showing their age. Is there anyone out there who rebuilds them?
Thanks
mike
Check this older link…I asked about it a few years ago. I sold the car, but inadvertently kept the rivets/tool. Ironically I may need it for another car I’m buying.
Hey Cheeser,
Would you consider rebuiding my two tailpipe hangars (looped rubbers)?
Let me try doing mine later this spring first to see how it goes. It looks fairly easy…hardest part may be cutting material to size.
I found a old bias ply tire & cut strips out of the side walls…
You can buy brand new ones from Scott Fuller Exhaust. Have correct Ford markings. Shelby, Boss, and Mustang Exhaust Systems
WCCC, sells used hangers. May or may not be as cost effective, but does save you time and effort.

I learned that the original hangars were made from metal brackets, and cut-up tire sidewalls. Modern radial tires dont offer evenly sized cross-section, luckily Amazon has a vendor that has 2” strips of reinforced rubber. Amazon.com: DOBTIM Adhesive Reinforced Solid Rubber Sheets, Rolls & Strips Cloth Inserted 1/4 (.250)" Thick X 2" Wide X 10’ Long, Neoprene Rubber Strips Tensile-Resistant Tougher Projects : Industrial & Scientific
To retrofit, I ground off the rivets then measured the strips and layed-out the dimensions on the new strip. Using a leather/rubber hole punch on a hand drill, cut the holes. Attached using bolt/nuts same diameter as the rivets and got very good results.
Hope this helps someone from scrapping good brackets and save some bucks on new ones.
Very nice! Been looking for a fix for the original hangars myself!
