Fastback Cougar project in progress

This is a project being done by Greg Zuch, who also did the structural conversion work on CatVert.

That’s pretty nice. I like the way the window opening matches with the kickup in the quarter panel, which is not usually addressed well in Cougar fastback concepts.

Is that a scoop in the sail panel?

Would like it better without the scoop things on the C pillars. Still an A for effort.

Yes, it appears Greg is going for the Shelby look. I kind of agree with Royce; I think I’d like it better without the scoop.

Not real sure I like the slopped trunk lid and keeping the Cougar quarter extension the same. To me it makes it look like a 50’s car with tail fins. A guy on Facebook is doing one and giving it the 69-70 Mustang tail treatment with the up scoop. I think that looks better. But, he had lots of fab work to marry the two together.

Love your creativity, but not for me. I think Mercury played with it and didn’t like it either.

Chuck Logan of New Mexico, was also building a fastback Cougar. Anyone know what ever became of that one?

The back reminds me of an early Barracuda.

I’m sure it will come out awesome when complete. Scoops are what they are but it’s super cool if they’re functional. I wonder if there are plans for a front spoiler?

Kiwi Classic and Custom’s on Facebook is building the fastback Cougar I’m referencing.

Really cool, but I’m on team No Side Scoops.

Yeah me too. Mustang GT fastback louvers would work, but look too much like a Mustang. Either way - it’s a very cool cat!

It would help to have the front edge of the scoop more parallel to the quarter window trailing edge.

This isn’t my project. It belongs to Greg Zuch, who did the structural and body work on CatVert. Prior to this and to CatVert, he did a targa top conversion on a '67 Mustang fastback.

Been watching that project, on and off too. Not sure I care so much for the trunk lines.

Found an earlier thread on fastback Cougars. Kind of liked the Torino/Cyclone side window treatment. Sorry for the crappy screen grab.

I wonder where he grabbed it? LOL
Yeah, I like the Torino lines much better.

We, as a group, should not encourage this sort of behavior

Why not? Most of us love to play the “what if” game…and, it’s his car, he can do what he wants with it.

I dig this. Think that flows much better

I don’t see the point with turning a fashionable Cougar into a half way looking Mustang. The Cougar just doesn’t look good with the Mustang roof. To make a good looking fastback I think the whole rear of the car and the complete roof had to be redesigned to make the lines float the way they should. Maybe even shorten the wheelbase a little.
