GT-E clone E bay

Just saw this https://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-Mercury-Cougar-XR-7-GT-E-Clone/324518756634?hash=item4b8ed3411a:g:tloAAOSwLGpgS8Hv
Do not know owner. What do you think?

Looks pretty well done. I wonder what the reserve is.

Does anyone know the story of this car? Looks like it is from Florida?

46k will not buy it.

That is one good looking Cougar. As the prices go up on original GTE’s, I think this type of cars will become more popular.

What’s not to like?!?!? Pretty wowie zowie!

Nice ride, but wouldn’t you rather have an “authentic” rotisserie restored J-code with a 4spd if it was born with one! …wonder if it’s in the Master Registry?

Sure wish I still had mine.

For me that answer is easy, no. I would much rather have this GTE inspired Cougar, regardless of how it left the factory vs how it is currently. Just my opinion, no more or less.

I would love to have a J code 4-speed, but this one has the 4-speed and I think you’d have your answer before you got to the end of the first block!

According to Phil it was not registered until this listing came up.

For sure. The push in the back and sound of the 427 winding out is incredible.

Thanks for the clarifying.

Exactly! I agree very much indeed…as long as it is as good underneath.

The guy who built it was VERY particular and took years to build. He finished it a few years ago, surprised he never drove it. There are hundreds of cool cars out there not on the registry, some folks are very reticent to give such details, some are original owners and do not know or really care about a registry. In time they will surface.

I’m typically not a fan of tributes or clones but I’d backstroke across broken glass to welcome that ride into my garage.

That is the post of the day! Well said

I saw this posted for sale somewhere else on the internet (can’t remember where). The for sale price was $100,000 and I believe the vehicle was locate d in another State. Maybe that is where the advertising site was located. Normally I don’t care much about clones or “tribute” cars but this one is very well done and would not mind this Cat in my garage as well.

What’s it worth to you?
I think that’s the question. A real GTE for around ~ $125,000 (correct me ) or a car that is basically the same with a rare 4- speed, that can be driven with no fear. Unless your Royce drag racing!!!
I’ve been looking at some 70 Boss Mustangs in the $70’s, real deal and always will be.
So what is a GTE clone worth? An excellent restoration with a 428cj?
My bid

$60,000

I’m with you, now sweet it is but still a clone.
