What is the technique to unhook the spring from the headlight bulb retaining rings? The manual says to unhook the spring and then the two screws . I broke two of my rings trying to remove them without unhooking the spring. I’ve ordered replacements from WCCC.

I use a metal wire hook that has a handle made from tubing. These are used sometimes to pull dents in bodywork.

Headlight rings on my 73 XR7 broke. Or rather, came apart at the spot weld. Used super glue to rejoin. That was 15 years ago, and they are still okay.
