I’m so old school that I don’t Give A Rats A$$ about anything on or related to social media, or the like. When I get home from work I actually go out side and play. Very often on my 69 Cougar of course.
My “Axe” is a handmade platinum flute from 1939. Most everyone else plays on 21st century tissue paper.

I sold most of the stereo equipment you guys own, back when it was new. Best job ever: I got paid to listen to music all day, didn’t have to cut my hair and wore jeans to work every day. Of course selling all those 8 track players, and quadraphonic receivers put me on the fast track to hell… but it did have its rewards.
I’m so old school I don’t even own a cell phone (technically it belongs to the Company) >.>
Wife owns a cell, but it is a flip phone.
Still have a land line, but now it is wired in with our internet, so not sure that counts.
Got rid of the tube TV a few years ago when half the buttons on the remote died and half the buttons on the TV itself broke off and fell inside the case! (Wife is still made that I got rid of “her TV”, even though I hurt my back throwing the damn thing away).
Ok, I’m not totally Old School, but I’m certainly not a shining example of the modern era, LOL!
Don’t you meed “Hi-way to Hell”?
I unfortunately am not very old school as far as tech goes. But am hating a lot of modern tech. I can not get land line high speed internet here with out forking out $14K to get the local cable company to run a block long extension to there cable. I use the mobile hot spot on the cell phone. I am trying a new plan. I hit the 25 gigs yesterday for the month. I have been cut back to 2G speed until midnight to night. Wow is it slow! I miss having a cable connection. Oh the phone company can’t do DSL here ether. Oh well, live goes on.
I had a 1928 Grigsby Grunow Majestic radio I sold in 1988. I really miss that radio.
I still mow my grass with a 1976 push mower, and a 1962 Cub Cadet.
I’m so old school my house has a 1939 Roper stove that requires the oven be be lit with a match.
I’m so old school that I won’t replace my 1940’s tank of a furnace that never breaks down, with a modern fuel efficient model.
I’m so old school I have a pile of coal out back, just in case it might come in handy for something someday.
I’m so old school that the most I have ever paid for a vehicle was $5,500.
So I’m a little curious about the “tube TVs” y’all are talkin’ about. Do you mean cathode ray or vacuum? Of course, one goes with the other, but the other doesn’t necessarily go with the one.
Amen, Amen, and Amen!!! I think posting that I am a Christian has turned a lot of people of from y instrumental album (actually got a reply to my page emailed to me with a guy flipping me off), or it could just be a really bad album (LOL).
I’ve been pulled screaming and kicking into the “new” school! Kids got us big screen tv, sound bars, DVR box, frustrated to the max with three remotes and can’t make a universal work, have a smart phone I don’t know how to use, every time I learn something It Updates itself and I’m lost again! Don’t own a high quality Marantz but I do enjoy the garage with Pioneer SX 3700 reciever, four Sansui SP5500x speakers, SG 9800 equalizer, SR 202 reverb, two 8 track recorders HR 88 and RH 60, PL 112D turntable, CTF 750 cassette recorder and alas a PDF 605 CD player, 1,472 8 tracks, boxes of cassettes and lots of records! Do have a VCR, and a land line, still use the tools my wife gave me for Christmas in 68, car has Cragers, glass packs, and of course an 8 track! And yes, love Jesus and go to church on Sunday!
My wife wants to know more about this old school flute.
Made by Verne Q. Powell in Boston. I think he was the Stradivarius of the flute.
Started with the Haynes Flute Company - went out on his own in 1926 - made his
first flute from silverware he had collected in his neighborhood. Between 1926
and 1962 he made about 2100 flutes. Yamaha makes that many in a month!
It was originally played in the New York Philharmonic, later in the Chicago
Symphony, then in the LA Opera Orchestra and Hollywood studios by yours truly.
It is 1 of only 8 he made in platinum. Most are Sterling silver, 26 are gold.
When we were doing Les Miserables back in the 80s (8 shows/week for 15 months!)
the Sax player nicknamed it “Dirty Harry” because of its big sound and its serial number of 357.
(I know it’s a .44 - but what the heck?)
As for Jesus? Ask for Him by name - He’ll change your life!
I think it’s awesome that you have such a great piece of musical gear. I can honestly tell you that musically speaking, there is NOTHING like being in an orchestra pit. As far as Jesus goes, he’s changed my life to the point that I have too many testimonies to tell in a a short post. You’re absolutely right.
I’m not all that old school when it comes to a lot of things. I text message, email (can’t remember the last time I purchased a US stamp), I use gps just about every day while I’m on shift at the FD, I use a Keurig coffee maker for the perfect cup of coffee, the last time a wrote a paper personal check was in 2005. So I like the convenience of the technology in my daily life. Here is my “old school” items. I write letters and notes to my family on paper in cursive (a lost art), I made sure the the two private schools that our children attended and currently attended are Christian based. I made sure that our youngest sons school teaches cursive (public schools stopped teaching it). We eat dinner at the dining table every evening as a family and say the blessing whether at home or in a restaurant. I like the look of single stage paint jobs on most classic cars. I also like reading and holding a real book (I used to own a comic book shop and used book store).

Man!!! I used to think I was old school!! My wife tells me weekly, how much I hate change!! But after reading some of these… Wow!!! I’m a modern day young buck!!! Lol! (that’s modern code for laugh out loud!)
