It's a start again

Mike, thanks! I probably will do that next week. I have some work to do tomorrow and this week end will be fishing in a new area that I have been wanting to learn for some time. Spring is the time that speckled trout and red fish move in to fatten up on shrimp which have started their run to deep water. I’ll continue on carpet Monday. BTW did you find the reason for the froth in your oil tube? I haven’t read anything on your findings. SalD Cougar geek

Not just yet, but I suspect my head studs. I think at high RPM’s that they are streching. Already have new ARP studs in hand as well as hard block. Will be ordering several more parts and having the block reworked soon. May even repaint the block to the color I want the car, afterall, it has been on the road for over a year now. Time for a refresh, even though it still has less than 500 miles on it.

That’s krazy! I was thinking that I may build my 1971 Cleve up with some horsepower and drop it it the green standard for some fun but don’t know if I can handle all of the break down trauma. Less than 500 miles means that it still has the new motor smell on it. I’ll have to learn a heck of alot more about stroke and horsepower before I can hang with you. LOL Sal

Installed my console

Installed back panels and back seat back

Installed seat belts and I used my solder gun to melt holes in the carpet for the seats. I still haven’t been able to track down why my gauge cluster lights will not light up. I purchased a new light switch and that did not correct the problem. I won’t install the seats until I’m sure that I don’t have to go back into the dash.

That’s it for now Sal Cougar geek

With a hammer? :poke:

The hammer was to keep it honest!

I never threaten myself to be honest with a hammer, the hammer may just win and find myself with a bump on the head.

I’ve been hammering away at it this weekend and today, Ya get it COUGAR2 hammering away? Anyway I have installed the rest of the chrome, constructed the interior, installed my cheapie 360 radio that was working fine untilI inserted the knob and now the tuner won’t work. Called the company and it appears the tuner knob is very sensitive and they are sending me another knob with instructions, I hope to change it out. The convertible top still will not come down and forward enough to lock but that is a minor fix. Changed the ugly red rims and hubcaps onto the vert and I like it! I still need to install weather striping since I need help to take the trunk off and I have 1 chip to be repainted on the passenger side fender extension. This extension had a bit to much orange peel for my taste anyway so I’ll bring the car to the restorer and he’ll help with the trunk. The hood needs to be realigned since it is riding high and forward and I have made my final order (that’s a joke) to WCCC for rubber pieces and trim.

Tomorrow I will change the CURSED intake manifold gasket that I have changed twice now and I have moved the fuel filter under the car first thing out of the gas tank. She was rolled off the trailer and waits fresh gas. It looks like I’ll roll rubber soon.

Almost forgot, I installed my seat belts in the reverse order so I have the opportunity to reinstall all 4 of my seat belts.

Can anyone tell me or send me to a link where I can purchase a original set of wiper blade holders? I have the arms but the blade holders have been replaced and are Black. I would like to have the original chrome look.

Man I wish I would have thought to use a soldering iron for putting holes in the carpet!

I got a set of originals for you Sal. PM me your address and I will send them to you when I get a chance. They need to be cleaned up, but they are in good shape. I think I have two or three sets of them.

Mike pm sent, would appreciate it. SalD

pm sent again

OUT WITH THE OLD

Not really old just not done well and chopped up

I brought the car to a new shop that convinced me to just start over.

I had a local guy that only does glass in older cars adjust my windows to the new convertible top. I also muscled my top closed.
He could not get the glass to close on the rubber track for the convertible top and also seal into the A pillar. At the moment, I’ll have to roll the window down a quarter of an inch in order to get the door to close properly, Or unlatch the top but not necessarily unhook it before I close the door with the window rolled all the way up. Either way the windows won’t seal properly with me outside of the car.

We’re hoping that as the top conforms to the frame and the new rubbers seat into the door frames and windows, it will loosen up enough to close properly. He’s agreed to readjust in a couple of months.

Hopefully I can charge the AC without any problems (laugh) and receive an inspection sticker this weekend. I’ve also ordered a couple of bottles of Royal Ice by Royal Purple because the car will run a tad hot when sitting and Idling. I put 2 bottles of Royal Ice in the green standard and I hasn’t ran on the hot side since.

Will post completed pics ASAP SalD Cougar Geek

SaID,
I don’t know much about the convertible tops, but the cable that runs down both sides, is it adjustable? if so, could it be too tight? Who installed the top, is there any way they could make some adjustments?

cougar2, the top was installed by a local shop and they wanted it tight. The top will stretch with the sun and heat although this car hasn’t seen any sun as of yet. They can make adjustments and will if, when necessary. The neat thing about the glass guy is that I’ve known him for a long time and have just realized that when the convertible top installer has a issue with a top, they call him to adjust it. Right now everything is tight because the top was installed before the A pillar weather strip was installed and the windows were so far out of adjustment that the doors would not even close with the windows rolled up. Not only did the windows have to be adjusted, the rubbers on the convertible top had to be readjusted to make everything fit properly. SalD

I still have a few things left to do but here are some pics

So how does that sun feel sweetheart?

A few problems: my lights won’t hold vacuum for a long time. I think it is the reservoir under drivers side front fender leaking.

Hood needs to be readjusted

and I put a nice little gash in the rear fender extension that needs to be taken off and redone.

I took a first ride and was happy with being able to make it back home. Actually the motor sounds good with no valve noise or exhaust leaks. We still have to replace the idler arm and also go into the dash again as a few lights won’t come on, speedometer cable came unplugged and I wired the rocket mans RPM gauge up wrong. (Should have read the directions)

I’m very happy with the results and it seems like an eternity since I started on the restoration but I purchased the car on May 5 2010 so I restored it in less than 2 years.

Directions…what man EVER reads directions??? LOL, looks really nice, Sal.
