leaf springs

Where do y’all get leaf springs for a 68 cougar being setup for road course duty? I think from my research I am looking for something equivalent to the 5 leaf leaf springs from the mustang world. Looking forward to getting the car up in driving shape, it will be a lot different than my previous c5 z06.

Because I am local to them, I had mine made here:

http://www.benzspring.com/

You can work with them to change the spec., but they have the blueprints for them.

Just found out that Mustangs Plus has 4 through 5.5 leaf leaf springs with all the different eye levels.

Had not seen them there, but I did pick up some of their progressive rate BB front coil springs.

Just be sure that the springs are for a Cougar and not a Mustang. Mustang rear springs are too short for a Cougar.

I looked at that page, they have some Cougar options, but I think the pricing is off. They list the Leaf as $199/pr, then a kit with shackles, shocks, and some hardware for $500. I think those springs are probably $199 PER, or $400 a pair, and the options are limited.

I think you could have them made to your specifications by having them made rather than buying off the shelf. My pair was $380 and I specified the free-arc I wanted, and could have easily added a leaf.

Just thought you may want to think again about The Mustang Depot. Their knowledge on Cougar fitment is…well…not apparent to me. Customer service was good, so they have that going for them.

To quote their representative I spoke with today “We have a lot of Cougar guys send stuff back because it does not fit.”

I had to send their ‘progressive rate’ BB springs back. To be fair, they were Drake’s progressive rate BB springs…or were supposed to be. Put them in, let down the car and …well…it didn’t come down.

8" from wheel well to tire, could not even bolt up the shock, still 1" from the perch, hanging like a trout.

P/N C7ZZ-5310-PR BB labelled…they have an extra coil and 1" extra in height over the C7ZZ-5310-P’s I just got from Don. Both are .720 dia. and they fit on the perch.

May not be the right spring in the box, who knows, but when I called the guy was like “those are Mustang Springs, not for a Cougar”

So I just asked for the RMA and drove to Brooks!

i called mustangs plus a week back to get a cougar quote.

Reverse Eye 4 1/2 leaf was quoted at 329 for the pair not including install hardware.

the extra 1/2 leaf and reverse was 60 extra so you are probably looking at 270 for the pair of “grab a traks”

Espo Springs n Things. $270 plus shipping for correct as OEM competition handling springs.

Great info guys, I’ll definitely take all of the advice into consideration. I’ll try the benzspring.com route or somewhere to build them for me since mustangs plus doesn’t seem to know our cars.

Derek,

I buy some of my Cougar parts from Mustangs Plus and I know that they have Dentonis in Stockton build their Cougar leaf springs.
