This is my first car from age 16, I have owned it for 50 years. Just brought it back to life. Thought some of you might enjoy. This is my first post, hope it works.
Oh, we enjoy!
Would love more details - she looks gorgeous.

Hi Phillip, thank you. New paint with several clear coats original Mercury 69 black, was tri black from the factory with white pin stripe, vinyl roof was replaced when painted, rear quarter panels and rear valence replaced. Black leather interior is original, replacement reproduction steering wheel and deluxe head liner from WCCC. Many parts replaced full brakes, shocks, front suspension, starter, alternator, battery, rear springs (but still needs work to level out) gas tank, exhaust for the right sound, LED lights and related circuitry, 351 W rebuilt with Edelbrock 4 bbl intake and Holly carb, hooker headers, FMX automatic transmission rebuilt. 15" Wheels and Tires. Various trim pieces such as rocker moldings. I think I still need a new steering box (sloppy steering wheel-- recommendations would be appreciated). Memories are still alive:)

Richard
Not many of us managed to hold onto our first cats, let alone have them end up like that! SO nice!
Can you post a picture of the door plate or a Marti report, or confirm it is paint code A? My 69 XR7 is currently painted black having originally been gold, and for authenticity I always assumed black wasn’t an option since it isn’t on the paint charts for the Cougar and seemed to only be a Marauder option. I’d like to confirm the code so I can have my local English Paint and Color match it.
Gorgeous car!
Thank you working on scanning the Marti report, in the mean time, definitely -----
On the Marti Report it states A, Black Paint, Ford #1724-A
By the way I expanded the picture of your car-- looks great !, mine had wheel lip modlings and door edge guards originally–thinking of putting on wheel lip moldings back on.
Thank you very much the car had many storage locations since 1990 when I moved from Winnipeg to Toronto, brought the car with me but sold the 68 Corevtte before moving. The Cougar still has the original dealer crome signature emblem on the trunk–“by Wiley” Ford and Mercury dealer in Winnipeg.
According the Cougar By The Numbers book there were 1953 1969 Cougars painted in code A black.

Wow, now that is really cool- great foresight to keep your first car… and black always looks good. My first car at 16 (1976) was a '67 289, 3 spd. stick. Got it for $25, and had to dig it out of a snow pile… It no longer exists. I sold it to a guy from school, and he wrapped it around a telephone pole.
That is one beautiful Cat. It reminds me of my first car, a black Dodge. After I waxed it I couldn’t believe how it shined until the dust and pollen would cling to it.
Do you feel like you’re 16 again when you drive it? I still have my second car, a 66 Mustang, which I bought when I was 20. When I drive it, I feel like I’m 20 again. I call it my time machine.
Amazing! I’m doing the same thing with my 68 Mercury Cougar XR7 that I bought when I was 16. I left for the Marine Corps when I was 18 years old thinking I would have time to rebuild it. 26 years later, I finally got the opportunity to start working on it.
Congratulations and I hope that I will have the same finish product at some point.
I’m going to be putting a hood scoop on my Cougar also. Can you tell me what your measurements are from the rear of the hood to the rear of the hood scoop? This would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you Brian good luck with your project.
Thank you, yes it brings back a lot of memories and a lot of fun.
