Hello all, I’ve made the decision to completely overhaul my front suspension in my 1970 Cougar. I was wondering if there was a ballpark range of price, and different companies that make kits and which ones worked best. The car will be a daily driver, nothing too crazy performance wise so just a firm comfy ride is what I’m looking for. The front is already updated to newer disk brakes so I don’t need any brake parts included. Thanks.
You can get cheapie kits that have replacement ball joints and inner bushings and shaft kits. Problem is most of the A arms are cracked or bent, and it increases the difficulty level substantially. I recommend that you get complete upper and lower A - arms. You can’t beat the prices at Summit Racing for the Scott Drake replacement parts, and the quality is outstanding. Did I mention that you get free shipping too?
There’s not a kit at Summit. You simply need to order all the parts that you are going to replace. Get the shop manual and look at the part replacement section. It helps.
Okay, I did consider just getting new stock parts, since it’s nothing special I’m sure the stock will be fine for it, and I plan on buying manuals soon for the vacuum and electrical, so I’ll make sure to add that to the list, thanks!

Here is a kit, make sure you get the roller spring perches where ever you end up buying.
That kit looks nice, I see its for a 67 and they’re out of stock for 70’s, the differences seem to be minor but are you sure the 67 would fit? The only difference I can see by picture is the Outer and inner Tie Rods are slightly different, steeper angle on the 70 and perhaps the stud size is different.
Mustangs Plus “Grab-A-Trak” kits are complete and reasonably priced. Good quality.
Don’t get the 67 kit, I think he accidentally gave you the wrong link. Hold out for the correct 1970 kit (I’m assuming you have power steering), it should be back in stock soon. The idler arm and tie rods are different.
Also while you’re doing front end stuff I’d highly recommend the export brace, it’s one of the best, and simplest things you can do to firm up the front end.

Yes my bad, its a Monday morning.
That’s all good, thank you for the recommendations. It says the kit is out of stock but each part individually is for sale, I may just add it individually or just contact them, but I noticed for the inner and outer tie rods they are listed under manual steering, but the description says it works for both power and manual, and they have no listing for power steering tie rods, so I’m assuming they are the same?
Edit: I see why the kit isn’t available, they only have 1 repro outer tie rod. I’ll contact them to see if theres any update on that. Other than this kit, is there any other parts I’d need? Or should any other parts still be in good enough condition to use?
If your pulling out the front coil springs might as well put new ones in and shocks and possibly the shock tower reinforcement plates.
Yes I do plan on going with the Gas-A-Just KYB or Excel-G front and rear shocks, and new springs. Thanks for the help. In the future I plan on getting an AOD trans, so for the springs would the 351C FMX Coupe with Air be the closest? That’s the setup I have now, just unsure of the weight differences between the FMX and AOD.
