Installed many sets of leaf springs. I would not recommend any of them for you to purchase. They were all over the map. Some were ridiculously high, others were very low. The worst came from Eaton Detroit spring but I have bought some from Espo and WCCC. Having a money back guarantee does not help - the guarantee covers the cost of the part, not the labor.

Hi ! I’m also looking for new leaf spring set for my car ,what 's your recommendation for new leaf spring on a 67 ,the original on mine were too rusted and damaged to be re-installed on the car. I’m looking from a set of competition handling for a 289 standard with automatic transmission from WCCC.
Thanks and Have a great day !

I would not buy any new springs. Take your existing springs off. Have them rebuilt and re-arched to whatever specs you prefer. Reinstall them.

These actually worked well for me and the ride height was as advertised…they have one inch over, stock, and one inch under. You can remove the aluminum front bushing meant for caltracs

For what it’s worth, I had to buy new leaf springs for my car as the originals were long gone and the aftermarket springs on the car were shot. I bought the set that matched my options from WCCC and it worked out fine. Maybe I just got lucky.

Thanks to all for the info’s, Since I don’t have any choice because mine were so much rusted that they broke at the fwd attachments when I tried to remove them. I had to cut them . So I think that I will go with the one supplied by WCCC. Just to give an idea of the condition I attached a picture of the rear driver side frame torque box.

What springs did you get ( stock or other and what is the ride height
( through center of wheel to the bottom of the Wheel arch of the Quarter panel }
So far nobody can tell me what stock is . Every site I look at says they have stock or + 1,2or 3" or drop 1 or 2" but no referance for what is stock . Mine is diferent on either side ,Just trying to figure out what I want
Thanks for any help you can give me.

It is listed in the repair manual.

Give me some time today and I’ll actually check what the manual says. You have to love the helpful answers on this forum of “it’s in the manual” over and over with no other assistance.

So, my car is a 68 XR7 GT with 4 speed and power steering but non-AC. So I got the springs that were listed as “stock” for that configuration.

I actually couldn’t find the ride-height specs in the service manual but they are on Page 32 of the chassis assembly manual.

Rear:
26.9 inches +1/-.75 for standard
26.5 inches +1/-.75 for GT/competition handling

My car currently sits at 27.5 to the wheel arch, just within tolerance.

Just looked through my shop manual, and I see nowhere that any ride height or measurement is listed. Got a page number I should be looking for? @Royce, you had also mentioned this is in the shop manual, any idea where?

Thank you

Hi !
Thanks for the reference ,I take a look and we have to be careful to requirements,
FUEL TANK FULL
ALL ENGINE FLUIDS AT FULL
SPARE TIRE AS PER DESIGN MODEL
SEATS AT REAR MOST POSTION
CAR JACK AS PER DESIGN MODEL
TIRES INFLATED AT 24 PSI (WE HAVE TO REMEMBER TO THEY USE RADIAL 14 INCHES TIRES AT THAT TIME).
So measurements could vary with all this.
Have a great day !

Sorry they use ply tires not radial tires

From the 1967 chassis assembly manual page 13

I found it easily (in my 1967 Cougar Factory Shop Manual) in the body section 17-2. You need to use those dimensions.

Interesting. We here at West Coast Classic Cougar sell a few set of new springs a month and have had virtually no complaints with the ESPO springs. they are made to factory specs and have dozens of options to choose from by how your specific car was equipped. It may not sit how you imagined it but it sits like it did when new if you order to the factory spec.

So how do you chose if you have a 67 Base 351/427 w stroker with alum heads alum intake ,C4 ,no AC and you want it 2inches above a 26inch tall tire???

Well, like anything that is highly modified you will have to do some extra research. If you can find a race shop or someone who works on serious circle track or drag car that has individual scales, you could get weight at all 4 corners and then call the manufacturer or the sales company and see what they recommend. Its not an exact science, it might be 1" 3/4 or 2"01/8th but it will be as close as possible with stock suspension. The other alternative is to put in an adjustable coil over set up in the back, but you could do a lot of trial and error with leaf springs for that kind of money.
