I ordered the new Opera Light Lenses last week, and was told I was the first to order them,
and would be the first to receive them, I assumed. Since no one else has mentioned getting them, I guess
I am the first.
Let me say that these repoductions are absolutely perfect, dead nuts on, and they are more beautiful in person,
than their photos represent. I really can’t say enough about the quality and the looks, words escape me.
Bottom line, run to the phone and order yourself some, you won’t be disappointed.
Thanks for saying so!!! I really hope the enthusiasm remains at half the level as it has been this week as we have a PALLET full of them! We are going to be making a video to show how easy it is to install them on any 67-68 standard that did not come from the factory with them. Most folks do not know that EVERY 67-68 is pre wired for them. If we can give folks the confidence on where and how to slice their headliner for installation I think many who have been cussing their dimly lit cabin will sign up.
Mine have been backordered for quite some time, and just received them yesterday. The chrome that surrounds the clear part of the lens is messed up, parts are white that should be chrome. And there’s a number of dark spots on that inner chrome as well. The outside ring of chrome is fine. Anyone else get lemons?
I’m sorry that you got a bad part. Be sure to let the guys at WCCC know and they will get you fixed up. If you got these anywhere else, it is not the same part.
Thanks for the comments guys. Yes, purchased from WCCC, but haven’t had the time during working hours to give them a call. WCCC’s customer service is well above first-class, so I know they’ll take of this quickly and efficiently once I contact them. Bill, I’m sure you’ve spent way too much time and energy getting these beautiful reproductions to market. I posted this thinking about the person who might receive a flawed set, and thinking “yeah, I guess it’s good enough”, without knowing your commitment to best-in-class. OK, I’ve rambled on much too long about this…
I will say that if you look closely (even on our photos on the site) You will see minor spotting on the inner (painted on) chrome ring. The reason these took two years to bring to the market was this very issue. One of the biggest challenges in reproducing a part from another era is making it look exactly like original when the process to make the part may be obsolete due to manufacturing processes, environmental restrictions or other factors. Try as we may to get this inner circle perfect we could not. As you sit in the front seat and look back, not many will notice any variations in color but “in hand” you will see it. I think there were these exact issues in the day as well. One clue is that if you look at later service replacement parts (NOS examples we have found in the box) you will find they quit trying to replicate the chrome look and just used argent paint. Critiques like Dave’s are why we strive for perfection, this business would be so much easier if the majority would have the attitude of “Oh well, good enough, just an old car”. If that were the general consensus I would not really enjoy this job. NEVER hold back your opinions with WCCC, we value them and strive to be as transparent as possible with all we sell.
Just out of curiosity, which you guys have preferred, the argent paint or the chrome? Maybe the next time we run them (probably a few years from now) they could be done in your choice of finish.
