New Walking Cat Rubber Floor Mats

I can’t believe these aren’t just being produced in colors. If you’re already set up to do black how hard can it be to produce a couple different colors.

I don’t know exactly how it works, but my guess is that they have to do a run of several hundred at a time. The odds of selling several hundred red mats, for instance, are a lot lower than they are with black.

JCCC has me on the list for a set of green ones. He said they planned on doing a run in the near future. I bought some black in the meantime. They don’t look out of place at all with my Ivy interior with the dark green accents in the carpet, dash pad, etc.
Now there is obviously to sets of molds out there for making these.
I agree with Al though. How hard can it be to make a batch of colored rubber to pour into the molds Johns, or Drakes?

Typically to get a factory to run parts they need to run enough parts to cover the time it takes to set everything up and then tear it all down to run the next product. The way the world works right now favors large runs. For most parts i reproduce you have to run 500 to 800 parts at a bare minimum.

You are correct, there are now 2 sets of moulds. Drake and JCC. The Cougar facial detail on the JCC set is better than the Drake set but the grip on the backside is better and more true to OEM on the Drake set. They need a minimum order of 100 sets to do colors and I have never been one to collect money on a pre-order so it would be all on WCCC. I cannot remember, does the JCC set come as a set of 4 or fronts only? They have recently been removed from their site.

Looks like they are all sold out at this time.

I’m holding out for an aqua set. I suspect I have a long wait.

Steve

Is there any word on how the set that got painted blue is holding up?
Also wondering if there is any update on some color options? Is there perhaps a list being made of people wanting a specific color to see when a order of 100 would be reached?
I may have need for something other than black in the future.

Johns Cougars would be your source for colored mats. The paint held up well for a season and then the car left our care. I can assure you in time it would wear off, no way around it.

Dangit Don, every time I start to get sensible and have money saved up to actually make my car run, you go tempting me with something new I really want. I didn’t even KNOW I wanted rubber walking-cougar floor mats, but now I’m struggling not to buy them!
You suck.

Okay, not really. laugh

My brother bought a set of NOS blue running cat mats (P/N was D1WY XXX XXX) and proceeded to dye them black in the mid 1990’s. They eventually showed the blue again near the gas pedal and clutch pedal.

These mats look great in earlier cats but are not authentic to them since they are not C7 or C8 part numbers.

Royce,
Clarify not authentic. Not a part that Ford produced therefore not in cars as they rolled of the line?
If yes then were there no mats that would have been put in off the line?

Are these still available in the blue as mentioned in earlier posts? Don?

Not a chance… John Bauman can do colored runs but you will have to commit to 50 sets. I would buy and or consign the other 49!

If I remember correctly the black ones were available in '67. The colors were available beginning in '71. I do not think there were any colors in 67 - 70 except the generic ones from the auto part store.

Not saying they don’t look great because they do.

According to my Marti reports, 69 had “color keyed floor mats.”

Yes, I have a couple sets of C9 colored floor mats.

Don are you serious that you would buy the balance of the lot? The set i would want would also be a blue set. Can we put together a list of people wanting a blue set . these ,would work for all blue and aqua interiors correct?

I have a single black one here that i thought was original to my car. It has a framed FoMoCo logo on it and carries the numbers. PPI 4312R. 2. Not a Cxxxx number.

My dad bought my 70 new (Feb 28, 1970) and it came original with red mats, in fact I still have them in my shed.
