Opinions wanted: C4 Servo and Shift kit?

I am pulling the C4 out to clean it up and replace the bell housing and spacer plate. The AT is stock.
Should I go ahead and replace the Servo with an aftermarket one, and put a shift kit in it while its out? Would this make any real difference in a 289 CI, 200 HP engine?
I’m not planning on any racing or dragstripping.

Engine: Stock 289 with 4V Eddy carb, Tri Y headers. 67 base cougar.
Thanks,

It will make no real difference, aside from increasing the firmness of shifts.
At first, that’s neato and cool. You chirp third gear and bang 2nd hard enough to leave rubber for a couple of feet, maybe.

But after a few miles or a cruise in or slow town ride, it gets old really fast.

There’s really no point in doing it to a stock engine/trans, or even one that isn’t raced regularly. The unobtrusiveness of the stock transmission in a driver quality car is really nice, and you don’t know how nice it is until you lose it.

Chirping tires is awesome for the first week. Then yes, it can be annoying. I wouldn’t worry about the servo. What I would recommend is getting a TransGo junior C-4 kit. It’s a “shift correction kit”. Not race car shifts, but a good positive shift.

If you fit a shift kit, you should install an adjustable modulator. That way you can set the shifts so it only chirps when you are into it

Yes, there are “shift improver” kits that don’t throw you into the back seat on every shift. I install them in almost every car I own with a north/south engine configuration.

The last couple guys are right. Kits like this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/bmm-50262/overview/ will improve the "crisp-ness (is that a word?) of your transmission, but unless you’re WOT it won’t chirp anything. They’re probably stocked at your local NAPA and Autozone’s, but definitely stocked at a local speed shop for less than $35 bucks. They install between the two halves of your valve body assembly. Less than 2 hrs to install if you take your time. No other mods are necessary, unless you wanted the adjustable modulator. These kinds of kits are awesome, had one in my 93 F-150. Very street friendly…
