Drove Isabel early this evening for the first time after the 408 installation. It’s a beast! I punched the throttle in our cul-de-sac and the tires broke loose and had to let off to get traction back! Rolling at 20-30 MPH, the tires break loose and start smoking up! I am surprised at the difference from the 357C.
With this combination I could drive up one side of Gauch’s bald head and down the other!
Well thanks (most of) you’s guys! Off to the body shop tomorrow for detailing and a few long awaited enhancements such as chip guard spray behind the rear tires. Prep for the Ocean City, Md. show in May. Should be a hoot, they get on the order of 3K cars turnout.
Yeah, of course, but I was hoping to have more than one pass before getting booted! I very well may get more than one pass depending on traction but with 275/40 drag radials and CalTracs I might hook fairly well, hard to say. The torque is much greater with the 408C as compared to the 357C
At the risk of more name-calling (hey tough guy, perhaps we’ll meet in person out in Sturbridge this fall ), bear in mind that those rules were put in place to safeguard you, the track workers and your fellow racers.
You might want to re-think not having a roll bar, vs. relying on that wimpy A pillar.
Then again, sometimes you just have let Darwin do his work…
Bob I think you may have missed the point. Isabel can be rebuilt, you have proven that pretty conclusively, but if you rolled it you might not fare so well. I could be wrong about how well they can reconstruct you too, but it would seem like a painful experience.
When I took my stock CJ Cougar to the local drags and went through tech they asked what I thought it would run, and I told them I thought maybe high 13’s. The tech inspector laughed and said 15’s maybe. They did the most minimal inspection, and marked the car accordingly. At Firebird you can probably run a baby carriage with a small block so long as it doesn’t break 14 seconds. My first run was about 13.85 and I got flagged back to tech. The announcer made a big deal of getting surprised by an old Cougar. He said it was the fastest he had ever seen Fine Corinthian Leather move down the lanes. (oh boy…) Anyway, when the did the real tech they discovered I didn’t have a catch can for the radiator. We found a metal brake fluid can, punched a hole in the top and stuck the over flow hose in it. I put it under the battery tray and it is still there today.
I’m legal to 13.49 (and always pass tech) and that’s the way Isabel will remain. One or two outings a year to the track to run 14.1 (like last year) or a few MPH and half a second faster, she’s fine the way she sits.
I am missing no point at all, they’re all good except those where a person whose posts where I am concerned have no purpose other than to get under my skin. You can interpret them however you like, however.
