Pictures of TriYs, and 2" exhaust system, Delta 50s

Can someone explain to me the need or benefit to an H-pipe in dual exhaust applications? I had my 68 302’s exhaust re-done and the guy at the shop did not put one in. Am I missing out? If so, what am I missing?

An H pipe will balance the cylinder pulses between both banks pushing the exhaust gases between both banks thru the H pipe. H pipe will give you better low end performance and a more muscle car sound. An X pipe has less resistance at lower rpm which in return will not see the added performance benefit until higher rpm’s. X pipe has a higher exhaust tone. Boils down to what you want. Performance at lower rpm and muscle car sound. Go with an H pipe. performance gain at higher rpm and exotic car sound. Go with the X pipe.
No H or X pipe will be more restrictive, less performance and not sound as good. I don’t think the performance gain amounts to much.

NM67COUGAR looks like it has a 289 with the Tri Y headers the H pipe is a better choice.

My X pipe system on the Mustang. Boss 302 = higher rpm, so the X pipe is better suited for this motor.

Thanks for the quick response and explanation! Back to the shop!
