Rarest GT-E?

I was on WCCC’s website posting links to help another member of this board when I came across the video link of the sale of Brian’s GT-E “Gunner” at BJ last year. I had watched it before through the link at WCCC. It got me thinking about how nice Brian’s car was and how selling it helps the the Cougar community in general. That lead me to think about Don’s comment at the end of the video (I know I’m thinking way to much  ) that Brian’s sale might cause Cougars and GT-E’s to come out of their resting places. Ok so here is my question. What is the rarest GT-E? Would it be the one white one(I think there was only one)? What is your thoughts?
Steven

PS. Does anyone have pictures of a white GT-E? I saw one online a while back that was repainted white, color change. They were small low resolution pictures.

I would have to say it’s Jim’s 4 speed. I believe originally there were only 3. No others have been found. You can turn a lot of cars into 1 of 1, but IMO most of it is baloney. My car is a 1 of 2 according to the Marti. But I really consider it a 1 of 12. I’m sure others will disagree, but to me a different color or rear seat shoulder belts don’t make a whole lot of difference.

The four speed Jim has is a good case for rarest. I like figuring factory color combos into the mix. That’s why I asked about the white one. Seat belts/ shoulder belts aren’t on my thought process either. I guess I would say my thoughts are something that makes the car standout from the others, all GT-E’s are rare (i get that  ). I read that one (prototype??) has two vin numbers. That would qualify as rare  . What makes your car a 1 of two /12 Al?
Steven

Steven, the prototype GT-E that has 2 VINs is #038, which is owned by Phil Parcell. If you go to the TCCN website (I’m having trouble getting the link to work) and click on the GT-E Registry then click on “History”, scroll down to where it says “Preproduction Prototype GT-Es”. Also, in the book,Cougar Muscle Portfolio 1967-1973 on pages 56-57 there are B/W photos of it. John

I consider it 1 of 12 because there were 12 Introductory Show Units produced. I just don’t think using options like tilt away and headrests are important enough to consider to get it down to a 1 of 2 car.

The ‘rarest’ W code would be that special order (non-GT-E) XR7 with 427 engine, AKA “Unicorn”.

The ‘rarest’ ‘R’ code would be Jim P’s former 4 speed XR7 GT-E.

I would say that Huisman’s Augusta Green standard sunroof GT-E is the most rare combination of desireable options. Could you imagine what a concours sunroof GT-E would bring at B-J? I tried to buy this unfinished car about 12 years ago but the Huisman brothers weren’t interested in letting it get away.

Hmmm. I wasn’t aware he had sold it.

You wouldn’t be partial to sunroof cars would you?

Maybe just a little.

Al, Jim P’s former XR-7 GT-E 4speed isn’t the only one around. There’s also one painted Augusta Green with Saddle interior. There are pics of it posted on the other forum. The thread is titled “1968 GT-E 428CJ 4Speed” by shipfitter_sjd started on July 26, 2010. John

Now that’s what I’m talking about! A Gt-E sunroof car, very cool.

I like the story so far on this car but it’s still real foggy on what the car is until it is seen in person. GT-E or XR-7 with the W code and A/C prep.

Thanks Puma I knew I read about that one somewhere. I will revisit TCCN and check it out. So what about it, anyone have info and pictures of the white GT-E?
Steven

Al Juraco has a blank paint code GT-E … that would be a special order color.

His is 1 of 2 Calypso Coral GT-E’s.

I bet that is a great looking color combo. Calypso Coral with the Argent lower trim. It would make your eyes pop
Any pictures of it online?
Steven

There are several that are 1 of color and trim cars. All of them I would consider rare. Mine is 1 of 3 color and trim.

I assume that’s a documented car? I don’t know if I can bring myself to visit that other site. Aw who am I kidding, it’s news about a GT-E of course I’ll go read it. Thanks!

LOL Al, yes it’s listed in the registry as being seen by Jim P. John

Al being a GT-E owner don’t you have access to the data base / registry? If so you wouldn’t have to visit the other site. :poke: I was weak and went over and read the thread. Beautiful car. Was the rear antenna an option? I was also shocked by the 1/4 mile times for the 428cj in that thread. I figured it would have been at least high 13’s.
Steven

I have a copy of the registry from quite a few years ago. As far as I know, the only way to get one is to contact Mr. Pinkerton and have him mail it to me. I haven’t done so because I kind of feel like I’m imposing. It would be nice if there was online access so owners of record could view the most recent version. Then again maybe there is and I’m just not aware of it.

You, as an owner of record, can have a copy of the Registry downloaded to you to print, simply by asking for it. So, send me a regular email and ask  It is no imposition by any stretch of the imagination.
