Rear drum to disc conversion 68 XR7

I was just given a Christmas gift from my Mustang buddy. A full rear disc brake conversion kit. Hopefully I will take some pics of the conversion and comment on the installation. My buddy has been a Mustang aftermarket parts engineer for many years selling brake conversion and transmission conversions and has party retired so cleaning out the garage I ended up with a few items he will not be needing.
I will be using his kit for my 5 speed conversion later next year.

When it’s my time I’m going to ‘party retire’ too!

Would love to hear your before/after impressions. Do you have front disks already? I’ve heard some opinions that rear disk isn’t needed and others that are advocates. What kind of car do you have; more factory original or resto-modded?

Hello Felix,

I’m considering doing a rear conversion on a 69. So, would also like to hear feedback from your completed work.

The car is a 68 XR7 302 auto that I just bought last month. Ive been spending the last month making it stop and go and going through all the electrical.
I haven’t even registered the car yet. Not a show car.
Plans are resto mod, original looks but upgraded drivetrain and a few interior mods.

You will want to check to see if distribution block and proportioning valve need to be changed. Darryl at WCCC is pretty knowledgeable on brake systems. I would bounce it off him. You don’t want those rears locking up throwing you into a side skid. I’ve got a 67 GT so it came with disc on front and drum on rear and that works real well.

The kit comes with an adjust prop valve to replace the stock one.
I have Mustang Steve helping with it.
