Hi everyone! So here’s my W code Marti report. At some point in my cars life it was rough and someone who didn’t know any better found a really nice restored car and swapped in the grills and interior, not knowing the original stuff was specific to the car. The Marti report shows that it had saddle crinkle vinyl interior, deluxe seat belts, console, and head rests. Could anyone weigh in with pictures of their 68 base model cougar with that interior so I know what I need to be looking for? It would be highly appreciated
How cool…

Lots of great images in the GT-E book and issue of ATSOTC Magazine featuring the GT-E located on Cougar Club Store
Are you able to share images of what was used in your car from the donor car, those pieces could be used to sell and help fund the pieces you need.
Please email me via Chair@CougarClub.org if I can help you locate any of the parts you need to replace for your restoration.
Hey guys, thank you for the 1F post. I do have the gte book, but couldn’t totally tell the difference in photos. Do you know what makes the interior “crinkle” vs not? I found a 68 302 2v xr7 that is Augusta green and saddle interior I want parts from. I know certain things are xr7 specific, but kick panels and what not should be the same
Kick panels are probably the only thing that’s the same
Door panels, seats, rear seat surrounds are all xr7 specific?
Yes they are. If you had the deluxe interior the rear seat surrounds might be the same. XR-7 had rear armrests standard interior did not.
Rear seat side panels are not the same deluxe to XR7 style interiors. The deluxe will have a matching piece of basketweave like the door panels. XR7 panels will not have the basketweave piece. The graining and stitching is also different.

Thank Randy
The black interior that is currently in my car is deluxe then because it has the matching strip from door panel to seat surround
If the basketweave panel on the rear seat side panel has a half circle cutout to go around the window crank it is a 1967 standard style panel. If the basketweave stops before it gets to the window crank then it is a 1968 deluxe style panel. The front seats look to be 1970 or newer high back seats.

The front seats are near mint 69 mach 1 seats that my father set in the car because the original low backs were in terrible shape. I do still have the originals, they are the match set to the black rear seat, but need covers and foam repair
69 Mach I front seats use the same frames as 69 Eliminator. Those are a 1 year only seat and not easy to find.

I’ve had the seats since I was a kid, probably 25 years now. If anyone in this thread can help me source my saddle interior, I need all of it. I would seriously appreciate any leads. Especially the front seats with head rests
finding correct 68 seats with the headrests is even harder than finding the 69 Mach I/Eliminator seats.

I’ve heard both answers so I’m not sure what to believe. I was told they’re hens teeth and that they’re also the same frames as every 68 that came with headrests no matter what trim level they were and they aren’t as hard to find because of that
The seat frames are easy. The two post head rests are super rare.
Head rests rare!!!.. well, it would seem that my son and I are learning something everyday about this, 68 1/2 ‘R’ code car but, if this is what you’re talking about (picture included) then, we are in!
I think those might be ‘69 single post headrests. Or they have the ‘69 covers over them anyway.
Here’s a ‘68 dual post headrest Head Rest - Dual Post - Head Rest Only - Each - Used ~ 1968 Mercury Cougar / 1968 Ford Mustang ( 1968 Mercury Cougar, 1968 Ford Mustang ) at West Coast Classic Cougar :: The Definitive 1967 - 1973 Mercury Cougar Parts Source
