I have a question about the running cat rubber floor mats. I have seen pictures of them before and I like them. We’re these floor mats an option on our classic Cougars or standard equipment? If they were an option were the standard mats plain, rubber or carpet type? What years were the running cat mats used?
I guess I should have titled this topic “A lot of running cat mat questions”.

I have seen the same running cat floor mats that I had on my 71 xr7 and seen the same mats on 68 xr7’s. Im not sure about standard cars though. I can say that I have never seen a plane rubber mat in a cougar and also never seen one with carpeting. After market mats were carpeted. This is why I wish I didn’t get rid of my blue set I had and need another set for my 68 in black. I think this would be a good seller for WCCC. Im not sure of the demand, but there are a lot of cougars being re-done that would need them.
I agree about them being a good sale for WCCC especially with Cougars being restored. Still curious about what type of mats came in the different models of Cougars.

All the NOS ones I have seen came in C9W_____ or D0W___ marked boxes, and all of those were in colors blue, dark green, red or parchment. I have purchased several seemingly unmolested 1967 - 8 cars that had tattered original black mats. I believe the black ones may be correct for 67 - 68 and the colors came around in 1969 and later.
In any case I wish some more repro mats were available.
I think Royce is correct except I’m not clear on the Parchment colored mats. I’ve had several NOS set, including one I bought from Royce, and they all had a D4W part number. I guess it’s possible they made some minor change between the early years and 1974 resulting in a new part number but I was under the impression that this color wasn’t available until 74.
I’m very familiar with this car. It was restored by Mike Willett, owned by Ed Hill and now is owned by Scott Ferguson. The mats aren’t original to the car nor is the Madras Blue/Parchment color scheme.
Floor mats were available over the counter at dealerships so even mats that appear to be old and original may not necessarily have come with the car when it was delivered. I’ll ask Scott to verify the part number on the back of his mats to see if they are earlier than D4W.
Colored mats were available earlier than 1969. Here is a photo of the boxes for a set of NOS mats that went into my CJ G car. I am still trying to get them to flatten out.
Notice that the rear mats were common to other cars.
Jeff asked me to get some part numbers off my parchment floor mats as well as the FoMoCo box they came in.
Here is what I came up with:
Part number on the box is D4WY-65130-C
Part numbers on all the floor mats close to the FoMoCo embossed emblem
Left PPI 4468L1
Right PPI 4468R2
Rears 1475 2
From many years being involved with Cougars I do not believe that parchment mats were available until 1974. They are exactly the same design and dementions as my original black mats in my 68 XR-7 GT. They would not have a 74 part number if they were originaly available in 67, 68, or 69.
I hope this information has been helpful.
No problem.
I became a member of this forum when Bill first started it a couple of years ago, but I had to sign up again, for some reason, in December of 2011.
First, Floor mats were a dealer installed accessory. They were not standard equipment or available on the option listing when you ordered the car from the factory.
Scott is right about the forum issue. We did a major upgrade of the forum software about a year ago. Since we do not record any passwords, we were unable to move the members from one version to the next. So basically we messed things up for most of the earliest supporters we had. And for that we are apologetic: mea culpa! The good part is that the new software appears to be running pretty well and is much more secure than the old system.
So Scott, welcome back and sorry for the confusion and inconvenience. Let me know if we can do anything for you or Fordnutz.
Bill - My Marti report and repro window sticker both list “color-keyed floor mats.” Are you referring to first gen here or am I misunderstanding my Marti’s.
Ops! I should have qualified that statement! The original post was about the mats for his '67 and I was thinking along those lines. Floor mats were available as a Factory Option starting in 1969 as a $13 option. Then in '7o they became part of the Appearance Protection Group a $31.10 option. In '71 they continued to be offered as part of the Appearance Protection group but the design changed. (front mats with carpet inserts) along with front bumper guards and door edge guards, all for just $32.68 In '72 the price dropped to $$28.89, and by '73 it was only $21.68 but no longer included the bumper guards.

Well Bill, as a matter of fact there may be something you could do.
Is there any way we could get a forum for the Fordnutz Cougar Club as a part of this system?
I capitalized the N and now think that maybe I got that wrong. I also quoted the About section of your web site to create an introductory post. I will happily edit any and all of that how ever you would like to see it. Just let me know what you want and I will try to make it happen.
