The Dog Thread

I know at least a few of you have dogs. I thought I would start the Dog thread.

Here are my two Golden Retrievers: Lola and Kona.

They made excellent travel companions on our road trip across the country.

There are about a dozen state parks near my place and they love hiking with us. If there is water near by, good luck keeping them out.

This is my (Cheryl’s) current Golden, Lilly. She is 4 years old now, about 18 months in this picture. Once we get set up at the new place we hope to breed her once. The plan (interpret that as 'the wife’s plan) is to keep one puppy from the litter. It may take me a couple of years to figure out which one.

And this is my buddy Cosmo. Cosmo was about 110 lbs and loved to sit in my lap. I lost him to cancer in May of 2010. Easily the best dog I ever had.

I love that picture of Cosmo in the snow. That’s one thing I can tell my girls miss about NJ. When we go to Tahoe, we make sure to give them plenty of time to play in the snow.

Holy smokes, how have we not had a Dog thread?? Great looking goldens, guys…I’ll have to do some digging, and find a suitable one of our chocolate lab. “Rescue” dog, that was pushing 120lbs when we got her…she had rolls on her tail!!! She’d been the “office pet” at the shelter she was at for quite some time, and is an adept at caging treats! She thinks we’re abusive, as we now have her down to a healthier 86lbs, and gets no “extras”…

Here we go…also playing in the snow!

Bob…think I know a place that might take one of those pups off your hands…

She looks ready to take a dump! :poke:

I don’t dare open this thread at home. The two terrors want a Golden in the worst way and your two Hunter look wonderful. I’m just not ready for a third kid.

I was going to ask if this was an “action” shot.

My Whippet. So quick you’d think she was Cleveland powered. Best dog I’ve ever had. Very polite. Very trusting. Good with the little kids in the extended family. Quiet. Just a real gem of a dog. Great hunting buddy. Doesn’t like bounty hunters. :dogpile:

Thanks. You wouldn’t regret getting one. They are just awesome. I think I can even set you up with a breeder. Bob, you know anyone?

Oops, I thought this was a thread on Chebbies !

LMAO, I thought that as well, but seeing as how you can see the snow shoving out of the way of her legs, I figured I’d just let it ride…should have seen her last year with the 21+" snowfall…couldn’t understand why her toosh was cold. Finally shovelled her a clearing in the grass to do her business.

As for a third kid…c’mon, Scrooge, being a boy isn’t complete until you’ve had a dog!!! Buck up, and get Jr and LB a companion…better yet, get one for each!!!

Bob, we’ve got three of your litter taken care of…tell Lilly to get busy!

One of my favorites.

this belongs in an “all time best” thread :beerchug:

Fortunately, you can find all three of the colors of lab here in OK…UNfortunately, we seem to be overrun with the fourth, as well.

Here is my couch tater.

I call him my miniature pit bull. He is a mix of pit and boston terrier. He is built like a pit, but closer to the size of a boston terrier at 32 pounds. I got him from the pound, but the trailer parkers the had him when he was born figured that since he is part pit, he needs to have his ears clipped. I assume that they stared this, then realized how bad they bleed, then quit, since only one was cut. Hence one of his many nick names, Van Gogh. This is why one ear stands up, but the other doesn’t. His name is Scooter, but has a long list of nick names.

Van Gogh = as told above
Crash/Lucky = was hit by a car in front of my house
Girl = he’s a big time cuddler
Prancer = looks just like a prancing horse when he trotts
Pooter = because he does, alot
Scrappy = will whoop a big dogs ass if it gets too close to his bone, figured that out the hard way with a 100 pound mastif mix
Shadow = because he is always by my side

My dog frequently points out this one defining fact about our relationship: Who picks up who’s crap?
Or if I still don’t get the message: Who sleeps on the couch all day and who has to go to work?
Now tell me again who is in charge?

I see the logic in that, Bill.
My Whippet lives like a queen and is slowly teaching me to fetch.

Very pretty Mini-Pit, Mike. Those pits are nice dogs, but when mixed they tend to make real sweetheart pups.

THAT is a friggin’ riot! Van Gogh…
OK, here is mumma’s baby.

This is what happens when you say “Belly rub?” Lily Just loves my wife… I brought the li’l beastie home in a cold November rain/snow mix. For my troubles, she puked all over my truck.

First off, I’m not a small dog kinda guy. I grew up on a farm, and our dogs were the rambunctious, always ready to ride in the back of a pickup kinda dogs. I never had any use for neurotic little house dogs.
But, through a series of circumstances that aren’t relevant here, about two years ago I became the owner of a Yorkshire Terrier, named Cricket.
I didn’t immediately warm up to Cricket, but she took a liking to me, and it wasn’t long before I was completely won over. She’s just a great dog. Smart, playful and well mannered, not at all the yappy and hyper not-a-real-dog I’d imagined. She loves to go on walks and chase the neighborhood rabbits, not that she’s ever come close to catching one.
Anyway, a pic:

Update. Caught a picture of Cricket guarding the car yesterday:

Don’t be pissin’ off my dog. His best friend is the Meth Lab…
