Using electric cooling fan is better way?

I got it, I may as well use this valve for cooling and engine.
Is the purpose of this system to reduce a hydro-carbon emissions?

No that is a common misperception. The purpose is to increase the fan speed when the temperature of the engine reaches a certain point.

I see, it’s like a Guardsman that protects engine from overheat.
In that case, I wonder why a person who rebuilt that engine didn’t use this system.

Because they don’t understand the need or function….especially younger techs/owners that didn’t grow up with the spaghetti of vacuum hoses our vehicles were equipped with

Well they may not have known. It is a simple system with few components.

It’s been a while everyone.

Finally Japan’s deadly summer has ended now, so Cougar is awaking from a long sleep.

As expected I’m going to check the thermostat, but before that, I think I have to purchase and prepare a NEW CORRECT ONE.

Is this a correct one for 351c?

Also, Are there any points to be careful about when bleeding the air after changing the coolant?(particular care 351c)

Welcome back! That is the correct style, but the correct temperature is actually 192 degrees. Here you can select the temperature you want:

They are both the correct style though as CaliCat notes the 192f is the correct temp range. FlowKooler is a good company to work with and the price is much better too.

As to other steps, I’ve not had issues venting air when refilling my radiator on my Cleveland engined Cougar. Make sure the gasket is good under the water neck and the surfaces are clean. I haven’t had to use any sealants with the gaskets.

….yeah, no venting issues on my Cleveland either. Just know you might need to top off the coolant level once the thermostat has opened and then after it cools down again. I use this to seal water pump and thermostat gaskets.

I fully agree with the above advice on the factory thermostat replacements. The restrictor plate and the standard thermostat will give some cooling improvement if needed.
Unfortunately, I’ve not had good luck with gaskets. I’ve always gotten seepage at the joint with a variety of gasket suppliers. I’ve got an aluminum neck above the thermostat. It shows to have a flat surface against a steel machinist rule and the surfaces were always clean. If the gasket works for you, that’s great. If not I’ve had consistent success with Permatex Water Pump & Thermostat Housing Gasket Maker.

So many of us in this realm have things we swear by, products, methods and such. It’s pretty crazy when you think about how many different ways we’ll all go when it comes to sealing things up, and especially so on a motor. and even with all the varied approaches… for most part nearly all of them still net the same important end result for a job well done.

Thank you for your kindness.

What is the difference between 330 and 333?

Thank you for your advice.

I keep in mind your advice and work.

Is it necessary for me to prepare a new water restrictor plate?

Good catch - it is actually the 333-195 thermostat that you need. Sorry about that!

You will probably find the brass restrictor plate is still installed in your engine. But if not, you will need that too.

I requested this an acquaintance who works in importing.

I look forward to enjoying time with Cougar again.

Fixed heating issue with the help from the forum, thank you all and Don Rush for the video!!!

That was very interesting. I don’t believe I understood half of it, but very interesting

Hello everyone.
I always appreciate your help.
I finally got around to working on the thermostat the other day.
To cut to the chase, the previous owner had set it up without a thermostat.
Could the thermostat not being used be the reason the temperature rises close to overheating?
I have now installed the correct thermostat and plate.

Thank you.

The thermostat is needed but not having one would typically make the engine run cool all the time. If yours runs warm then it is probably bad timing or a bad radiator.

Make sure you have the correct temperature sender or the gauge could read hotter than it is
