Years ago, I was given a March Performance serpentine belt system for my '67 w/ 351W. It is still in the box but I was looking at what it would take to install. One of the things that I noticed was that it used a GM Type II power steering pump which led me to the question of whether it would work with a stock power steering valve and ram. Does anyone have any experience with using the Type II pump in a stock application? Or will I be creating more problems than it is worth?
I thought those were used with those Borgeson power steering conversions, which changes it from a system using 4 hoses to one using 2 hoses, true power steering not power assist.
The original type power steering pumps are out there. Try getting one with the pulley already installed. Moving that pulley is a PITA.
The GM one might have a much higher pressure, not totally sure however.
In addition to your power steering pump dilemma, double-check the water pump configuration. Ford serpentine systems use a reverse-rotation water pump. Depending on your rear of 351W, you might need to change that to something from a later model.
