Vintage Racing Photos

^^^ Schartman’s Cougar funny car was such a beautiful car - I love the fade from orange to yellow to white with the dark blue.

This is Bruce Inwood (RIP) formerly of Chatsworth, Ontario Canada who raced a 68 1/2 R code 428 CJ Cougar sponsored by Sandy Elliot Lincoln Mercury.

Thanks to John Elliot who recently posted these photos on the Border Bandits Facebook page.

Alive and well in Ontario.

Check out the angle on that rear wing!

Mike, do you know who has ownership of the Canada Drag Team Cougar and their contact information? Like to invite it to Dearborn for the 50th anniversary seeing how they are our next door neighbor.

Thanks,
Brian

Is that an R code GT-E in the near lane?

A definite maybe!

This is what started the Madness! :sunglasses:

Very cool GT-E photo. Looks like it was driven hard in it’s day.
Steven

Does anyone know where and when the GT-E picture was taken?

There are literally a ton of cool vintage Cougar (and Shelby) drag racing photos on this Facebook page - when you have some time to kill, go have a look.

^^^^^^^ Super cool Phillip :ylsuper: I’m going to have to grab an adult beverage and sort through history :smoke:

Ok, here is this photo’s first ever public appearance.

I was at my engine builder’s shop yesterday discussing the re-build of my XR7-G’s s code 390 (more on that later over on the XR7-G Engine Overhaul thread) when I noticed this photo up on a bulletin board.

This is Sonny Allen racing his 1968 Cougar at Southside Speedway here in Richmond around 1987.

Interesting that the other car in the picture looks like a Maverick.
