VOTE! - WCCC Eliminator Giveaway - You choose the winner!

It’s time! The voting will take place on mercurycougar.net, as per our original rules. We’d like to do it here at CCC, but we have to stick with what we said in the beginning. To view the finalists and vote for the winner, click here. Good luck to everyone!

In hindsight I think there should have been a rule about being a member of the forum before the contest even began. That might alleviate any concern about padding the votes. What would stop someone from posting a link on another forum with a message saying “Sign up and vote for me”?

I think it’s interesting seeing the growing list of new members who have signed up in the last few days.

Along those lines, yesterday I noted 289 people were currently viewing the VOTE thread! I think two-hundred and some were listed as “guest”.

Yeah, but even if we made it only open to existing forum members (which would make it a much smaller audience) there would still be no concrete guarantee of honesty. We thought about putting the poll on our website, so it wouldn’t matter if you were a forum member or not, but that still would have had potential issues. I guess we just have to have faith in the integrity of Cougar people. And, although it goes without saying, this is somewhat of a publicity thing for WCCC, so naturally we wanted to reach a bigger audience.

I saw that too, when it was 289! Good number. The thing I really don’t like is this: when you aren’t a registered member, and you look at the poll, you immediately see the poll results (instead of the list of choices to select from). I hope this hasn’t caused any issues, or bias.

It’s kind of too bad that we hadn’t had the foresight to make CCC the home of the contest / voting from the beginning, since it would have given it a good boost in membership, page views, etc. But like I said, I think we started the contest a little before the mass migration started to happen.

No, I understand the whole marketing aspect, I only meant in regard to voting for the winner. I have actually seen other site’s where people will solicit votes for a contest that they entered. If you had to be a member before the contest started in order to vote, that problem would be alleviated.

“The frenzy” seems to have fallen off very quickly on the voting thread over there. Something very strange was going on last night/overnight, I noticed my last post (it was the last post, may still be) was shown as having been posted much later than it actually was. What I mean is hours later it showed up as having been posted maybe a half hour ago, something like that. Maybe I had too much wine last night…

well. I voted, and i must admit, t’was for a member.

i also refuse to be ashamed of it

Jean.

ps. Bob, too much wine, and you didn’t even invite me?..
Oh woe is me…

LOL Jean. Well there is in fact something weird going on, I just looked and it says I was the last post, one minute ago! I think it is one of those broken thread things we saw on MCnet some time in the past. Thinking that people are posting but only the time posted is showing up on the new posts list and it still shows my post as the last one - and no new posts in the thread. Something is up. Someone go make a new post and see if it shows up, would you please?

Maybe the thread has been locked down by Helena and now only poll votes can be made? Seems plausible/reasonable if so.

Okay, Badcatt made a post, not sure what was going on there.

Bob, I did a test post for you with the exact time I posted in the body copy… Maybe they were off line for some kind of maintenance? Are you checking ISP addresses for multiple sign ups? I doubt that that is the issue, most likely just getting facebook friends to sign up an then vote… that sort of thing.

It’s a conspiracy I tell ya! Someone is trying to fix the voting so I don’t win! Oh wait a minute, I didn’t enter. Nevermind.

Surely you aren’t implying that “Admin” did something useful and / or is paying any attention to what’s going on? :badass:

I just posted too, it seems to work. But Bob I did notice what you’re talking about, where it jumped back up to the top saying your post was a few minutes ago, when it was the same post from hours ago. Huh. Oh well.

Seriously? I would need to go “over there” to vote? Crap. Not sure I can bring myself to do it.

Hi Bill,

I did try looking at recent sign-ups IP addresses, but the search function is such crap I didn’t have much luck. As for the facebook thing, I’d say that is a good hunch. Looks like things are settling down, hopefully it will come to fruition without too much drama.

BTW, did you get my PM regarding your ELFI?

Agreed, Blitz, that it woulda been cool if the timing worked out such that you guys would have chosen to do it here rather than there. But the solution to that is pretty simple… A few months from now, when you do another contest just like this one, except for a '68 GT-E, just do it here. Jeez I would spend so much time writing my application on that one, I can’t even imagine.

Or wait, even better! Bill can just give away his Black Cherry GT-E here! And the contest can be to explain how you’re the most qualified person to not have to restore it, and how you promise to wax it and change the oil and stuff. There we go!!

Haha, there ya go! Sounds like a plan. Too bad ratty, cheap GT-E’s don’t come along very often. You made me think of the gold car in this picture though, taken several years ago. Not sure what happened to it.

I’m hoping that what happened is you tucked it away and forgot about it and now that you remembered it you go find it and sell it to me for $7500.

I think the thread got tagged as having a “new post” anytime someone voted in the poll. I got a little tired of expecting to see a new post, only to find your same post.

Yeah, huh? I mean, the NERVE of that guy! :buck:
