Eastwood fast etch is amazing….granted I had to wire wheel to get the big stuff. The overall picture is right/top floor pan fast etched and bottom/left only wire wheeled…close up of pitting resolved
Will you just plug weld this panel? Or will it get a full length bead when it’s done?
Neither. I’ve filled the holes with weld by using a copper backing strap during the weld. I will install a new quarter and then have it squeeze type resistance welded by a body shop. It will look completely factory like this which is from the new fender apron. The blue car on my profile had over 450 welds made and you can’t tell the car was ever apart. The visual of ground plug welds or continuous beads is a major pet peeve of mine. Also, this was me recycling a perfect quarter I bought for the blue car which is the reason for the surface rust
Ready for epoxy primer on the bottom of the car and engine compartment. Areas taped off in blue are where the weld in subframe connectors go after getting primer down since they are so tight to the floor pans
I just rolled through this whole project and…WOW. You are amazing! That is some serious work. All I can say is: Well done Sir!
I agree! Thats one lucky cat!
Looks awesome!
It’s only wet epoxy primer but it’s color. Try not to make fun of my “engineered” paint booth exhaust system
Starting to bolt parts on is way more fun than painting and prepping to paint….although cleaning parts with 55 years of rust grease isn’t so much fun either
Is there any use of Anti-seize , Loctite, or are most threads left clean or oiled?
Loctite on upper control arm thru bolts. Never use any antiseize or loctite on tapered attachments, just torque and cotterpin
Most of the bolts have some sort of locking feature like lock washers or tapered nuts. I only use Loctite on bolts that do not have some sort of locking feature.
More small stuff…brake lines, fuel lines, parking brakes cables, pan plugs, interior sealed with two part flowable sealant at joints, and brushed seal sealer. On to harness taping, ac box rebuild, and rear axle clean up and rebuild
Ac box disassembled, metal derusted, new foam, evaporator flushed and fins cleaned/straightened. Column dash brackets derusted and installed. Wiper motor cleaned and installed. Brake booster blasted, painted, and reinstalled…working on rear axle now so it can roll by next week….fingers crossed
