70 xr-7 resurrection

Engine and transmission in for test fit. Headers don’t touch anything! No need for clearance and I’m using the Borgeson steering gear that usually causes issues. These are nice because they terminate before they reach the frame rail. Ordered my new radiator that is supposed to work with stock brackets and ordered a couple 17x9 Holley HK magnum rims for the rear. Pictures to follow

This is amazing. I cant believe how well the wire wheel work came out. It’s inspiring for the rest of us.

Engine finally painted today…my goal is running inside of a week or so

Well it runs and drives…at least around the yard….feels pretty snappy…trying to get it ready to drive to Carlisle. It will be very ugly….

Very ugly, Bah! Fenders and paint don’t make them pretty. A solid set of core components beneath is the true beauty. I’ve decided not to repaint, fix minor dents and flaws, slight twist to the existing bumpers, and be proud of my gal because everything in her soul works and runs as intended.

Well, it made a 2 mile trip. Going to body shop for torque box spot welding and wheel alignment tomorrow. Waiting on Eastwood to deliver roll on epoxy to kill some ugly. Still on target for the trip from Indiana to Pennsylvania for Carlisle

I wouldn’t worry about the paint. For about the first 10 years I went to Carlisle, my car was in primer. I loved it as I didn’t worry about parking lot dings or stone chips or even washing it. Now that its painted, I find myself doing paint chip touchups all the time and washing it constantly. Ah the good old days.

Well, I’ve gotten 50 miles on it..no leaks. Needs some carb tuning. Gotta install the back glass and interior pieces to make it drivable. It’s surprisingly quick….and knocked off some of the ugly with roll on Eastwood epoxy primer

Well, let’s say one foot back in the grave. Power steering pump locked up as I pulled into Carlisle parking right as it passed 300 miles. Oh well…off to the swap meet. The bad news is my replacement Saginaw pump arrives at my house today.
